Background

Global Pulse is an innovation initiative in the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, harnessing today's new world of digital data and real-time analytics to gain a better understanding of changes in human well-being. Global Pulse is being implemented as a global network of Pulse Labs, bringing together expertise from UN agencies, governments, academia, and the private sector to research, develop, test and share tools and approaches for harnessing real-time data for more effective and efficient policy action. Pulse Lab JakartaGlobal Pulse established a Pulse Lab in Jakarta in 2012 in partnership with the Government of Indonesia. Pulse Lab Jakarta functions as an open innovation space where policy experts together with UN development practitioners and other partners experiment with new types of data and emerging technologies to evaluate their potential to enhance both public policy decision-making and community resilience. Following the development of useful approaches, Pulse Lab Jakarta will support institutional adoption of these innovations into policy and practice.

Working RelationshipsCandidate will report to the Partnership Coordinator and will liaise closely with both the Communications Team, and the Research Team in Pulse Lab Jakarta.

SCOPE OF WORK, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED ANALYTICAL WORK


Partnership Activities:
  • Assist with the drafting of partnership materials in Bahasa and English; 
  • Identify potential partners to support research projects;
  • Assist in due diligence research as needed;
  • Support the Partnership Team with preparation for proposals and agreements;
  • Write minutes of meetings as needed;
  • Collect information and maintain partnership database.
Event Coordination Activities: 
  • Support the Partnerships Team with preparation for Pulse Lab Jakarta events (e.g., workshops, innovation camps, design competitions etc.) as needed; 
  • Collaboratively working with Communication Team to prepare event materials;
  • Assist in coordinating event organizers, facilitators, speakers, venue staff, team members;
  • Provide backstopping and logistical support as needed; 
  • Perform other duties as required.
Outputs

The main outputs based on above assignment will be:
  • Effective support to strategic partnership activities of Pulse Lab Jakarta 
  • Effective support to event coordination.
  • Effective support to day-to-day activities as needed.
Qualifications

The following minimum qualifications are required:
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor degree program (in public administration, political science, international relations, communication, business administration, management or related field, at the time of application and during the internship). Master degree preferred; 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of - or proven interest in – international relations and UN system coordination and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs;
  • Team player;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently within the overall team; 
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Bahasa Indonesia;
  • Sound literacy in office applications (desktop, web based, mobile, cloud), social media, online blogs
Finance

Interns are not paid and not financially remunerated.

All costs connected with an intern's participation in the program must be borne by:
  • The nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; 
  • The student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel (including to and from the office), visas, accommodation, insurance etc.
