Mental Health and Care Practices Field Worker 

Founded in 1979, ACF International (Action Against Hunger) is an international non governmental, non religous, and non profit making organization that delivers programmes in over 40 countries. Recognized worldwide as a leader in the fight against hunger, our mission is to save lives through the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition, especially during and after emergency situations and conflicts. ACF had been now developed into ACF International network with headquarters in France, Spain, Canada, UK and USA.

ACF has been active in some Provinces in Indonesia since its first established in 1999 in Indonesia in cooperation and partnership with the Ministry of Health, local authorities and stakeholders.

In line with its expertise, ACF has designed and to immediately implement a Program to support Rohingya, called : Psychological and Care Support for Rohingya Women and Adolescent Girls from Irregular Maritime Movements.

Therefore ACF will develop local stakeholders to deliver services to Rohingya distressed people, especially women and adolescent girls to ensure sustainability, while maintaining a level of contact with the camps and the stakeholders to continue to monitor the situation, having the possibility to return if the situation deteriorates. 

The project aims to provide women an opportunity to work through these traumatic events allowing them to return to a normal psychological and to provide adequate care to themselves and their children, who are indirectly being affected by such events. It is recognised that children of women suffering from severe trauma have the risk of failing to thrive and develop due to the loss of already limited care practices. In addition women may continue to feel insecure with their situation, compounding the psychological trauma. 

The project will as well to provide individual and group counselling and establish support and coping mechanisms for women and their accompanying children within these established camps.

To actualize this, ACF is now seeking a good candidate to fill the position of: “Mental Health and Care Practices Field Worker”

Work Base : ACEH - Langsa (ACF intervention Sites)  
Project duration : 6 months
Starting of Contract  : ASAP  
Reporting to : Mental Health and Care Practices Program Manager.

Educational / Professional Background :  
  • Diploma or Bachelor in Psychology or Social worker
  • Experience in emergency settings and humanitarian psychology
  • Previous experiences working in humanitarian organizations/context will be beneficial
  • Training experience, familiarity with different stimulation/awareness methods
Required Skills:
  • Good communication skills (internal and external)
  • Understand and have experience on Psychological First Aid (PFA)  & counseling
  • Good team spirit---Team player
  • Understanding of local context (community behaviour)
  • Willingness to travel and live in project areas (camps/sites)
  • Knowledge about refugee and asylum seeker issue
  • Knowledge about Rohingya language is beneficial
General Objectives of the position :
Organize education sessions on care practice, mental health and nutrition activities and be in charge of assisting local partner of  Mental health & Care Pratices programmes with various approaches.

Specific Objectives of the position :
 
  1. Assisting local agencies staff/ volunteers in PFA and support the refugee/ asylum seeker in distress
    • Facilitating the implementation of PFA and stress management training & services for local partner.
    • Collaborate with local partner in detect and refer most vulnerable cases and raise awareness on psychological wellbeing
  1. Establish safe space for supporting women refugee/ asylum seeker suffering from traumatic symptom
    • Assist local partner to identify and establish safe spaces centre in temporary refugee/ asylum seeker sites 
    • Assist local partner to deliver mental health and care practices services to refugee women. 
    • Support the implementation of training and technical follow up of local partner organization in delivery of individual and group counselling sessions
  1. Establishment of support groups at refugees/ asylum seeker sites.
    • Ensure the provision of individual counselling session are provided for those with identified severe psychological stress that is impacting on their daily lives and/or the care of children
    • Ensure the provision of group counselling and sharing session
    • Ensure the provision of service for children and women on maternal and child care at risk of nutritional and psychological stress.
  1. Establishment of IYCF and maternal care activities
    • Establishment of IYCF corners in the camps
    • Support the training session on maternal & child care including IYCF
  1. Reporting and project documentation 
    • Draft a report on daily activities and monthly achievement.
    • Documentation of activities in the camp site 
    • Monitoring and evaluation of programs in camp site 
    • Report every related findings in the field to supervisor and communicate them with other team
