Organizational Context
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Under the overall guidance and direction of the Country Manager, the Communications Officer participates in the implementation of the UN Women corporate communications strategy, as well as in design, management, and implementation of the Country communications and publication strategies which are geared towards awareness-raising of gender equality and the empowerment of women, promote public and media outreach, to include UNiTE Campaign on Ending Violence Against Women. She/he works in close collaboration with the program and operations team, UN Women HQ Staff (Communications) and Regional Office of the Asia and Pacific Communications Manager, UN Communications Group in Indonesia, media, and journalists ensuring successful UN Women communications strategy implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Functions / Key Results Expected
Summary of Key Functions:
- Implementation of internal and external strategies for communications and outreach
- Implementation of the publications strategy and plan
- Supervision of the content of UN Women Indonesia publication, for uploading to the UN Women web site, intranet, and other related web-based knowledge management system
- Support to business development
Provides support to the planning and design of internal and external strategies for communications and outreach focusing on achievement of the following results:
- Conduct of communications needs assessments for UN Women Indonesia Office (projects, country program and corporate change initiatives/campaigns, etc)
- Analysis of requirements and synthesis of proposals for elaboration of the CO communications and outreach strategy based on the corporate communications strategy.
- Development/production of communication and advocacy instruments and materials for marketing and awareness-raising campaigns, including briefing materials and press releases in coordination with the supervisor.
- Synthesis of proposals for project formulations to integrate advocacy and communication strategies into all aspects of the UN Women's development program.
- Effective implementation of the official publications strategy and plan.
- Management of some office publication activities, such as drafting articles, content management, norms for publishing, design, maintenance of regular contact with printers and other suppliers to ensure production and publication dissemination.
- Management of the content of the UN Women Indonesia office section in UN Women web sites based on corporate requirements in cooperation with the ICT staff.
- Preparation of the content for the web sites and social media to ensure consistency and quality of the materials.
Promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives and publications such as Progress of the World's Women, UNiTE Campaign and HeforShe.
Promotion and maintenance of public information campaigns on UN Women Indonesia activities, gender equality and women's empowerment, violence against women and implementation of normative frameworks on gender equality and women's human rights, under the supervision of Communications Specialist.
Outreach
- Preparation and dissemination of newsletter to donors, donor reports, civic education and community awareness, where appropriate, to support the office for resource mobilization
- Public information
- Timely and effective responses to inquiries for public information materials.
- Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to program country goals and activities.
- Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice including corporate communications repositories.
- Provision of training of UN Women staff on communications for development
- Professional growth through active learning.
The key results have an impact on the creation of effective communications and dissemination of information on UN Women as a global champion for women and girls. In particular, the key results have an impact on the implementation of UN Women communications and publication strategies.

Recruitment Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in media/communication studies, journalism, public relations or other related social sciences with at least 2 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications or advocacy, preferably in social and gender issues.
OR Bachelor's degree in the related field with at least 6 years of relevant experience
Experience: Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, good knowledge, experience in handling of web-based management system and communicating through social media
Language Requirements
Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia both in speaking and writing
