The Zoological Society of London is an international wildlife conservation organization with a focus on science-based and pragmatic solutions. ZSL has been active in Indonesia for about 10 years, with a particular focus on the overlap between industrial development and biodiversity conservation. ZSL’s Indonesia is based in Bogor, West Java, with existing field projects in Jambi and South Sumatera. We are now looking for:

Assistant for Tiger Holding Facility and Wildlife Trade

Terms and Condition
Start Date: June 2014

Duration of Contract: One year fixed-term contract, with potential to extend

Work Area: Bogor with travel to monitor projects in the field and elsewhere as required

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday from 09.00 am up to 05.00 pm

Reporting to: Conservation Coordinator

Key Internal Relationships:
- Tiger Conservation Project Manager
- Wildlife & Database Officer

Main responsibilities
A. Project Management
  • Assist Conservation Coordinator (CC) on the daily operation for the main task duty. 
  • Coordinate the project planning and preparation work include the concept and budget as well as implementing the work plan.
  • Coordinating with stakeholder particularly on the tiger holding facility purposes.
  • Work with CC to create database of wildlife conflict, illegal trade and tiger-prey disease (Zoonosis), include concept database which can be link to the national tiger database, collecting the data, compile-verification.
  • Support CC for monthly report of the temporary tiger holding facility and wildlife/tiger trade.
  • Communicate with team’s investigators, informants and key government focal person as well as other law enforcement agencies within focal area.
  • Engaging the relationship youth tiger volunteer to get the data or update information relate to tiger conflict and illegal trade.
  • Support to input and manage the data and information with key player.
  • Keep good relationship and collaboration as well as communication among the key player.
B.Logistics
  • Assist in the organization of the project- related meetings and workshop, preparation of materials and compiling minutes of meeting or meeting reports. 
  • Organize trainings for the operation project members (if needed).
  • Visiting field to collect the data or coordination among stakeholder.
  • Support his/ her line manager in budget management and advance request relevant to her/ his duties.
  • Support to input the data to SMART database.
  • Support to create the outreach product for publication or journal.
  • Support for the campaign or awareness program for wildlife conservation in general and tiger for the priority target.
C. Communications
  • Regular update information/progress to key partners for both Tiger Holding Facility and Wildlife/tiger trade. 
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of outreach products relate to the project.
  • Communicate with other relevant staff/ managers under his/ her line manager supervision.
  • Sharing information or documents among key stakeholder.
  • Represent ZSL at the meeting when required.
Qualification
  • Bachelor's degree diploma in environment with a minimum of 2 years of professional experience, preferable in the field activity relate to the wildlife/environment management. 
  • Fluency in written and spoken Indonesia is an absolute necessity.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Demonstrated strong familiarity with NGO.
  • Knowledge of and experience in supporting administration will be highly desirable.
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with people of different educational, linguistic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Good inter-personal and team building skills.
  • Advance computer skills required, knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages.
  • Can work with minimum supervision.
  • Commitment and understanding of ZSL Vision and Mission.
  • Works well in adverse team and a pressured environment.
