Arbeiter - Samariter - Bund Vacancy: Community Engagement Officer, Yogyakarta

Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) is one of Germany’s oldest and largest social welfare organisations with over 200 offices and a membership of 1.2 million. ASB has been working in Indonesia in partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs since 2006.

ASB’s work in Indonesia focuses on community empowerment to build resilience and self-reliance through an inclusive whole-of-community approach. The provision of technical assistance to government implementing partners is also a core focus of our work. ASB’s Indonesia Office is an innovator in the delivery of large-scale community and school-based DRR projects and is a co-founder of the DiDRRN network. The office is actively engaged at the policy level regionally and internationally with a particular focus on ensuring inclusion post-HFA.

ASB is currently seeking expressions of interest from qualified and committed individuals for the following position:
Community Engagement Officer  
Location: Yogyakarta (with possible travel).
Duration: 12 months (including probation period)
Start: Immediate

Summary of job profile:

This position is primarily to assist in coordination and delivery of field activities aimed at building community resilience within a combined DRR andlivelihoods framework. The position is also to assist in the documentation of good practices developed. Duties will include local stakeholder coordination, community engagement and support for capacity building/trainings. The Engagement Officer reports to the Team Leader and is expected to coordinate closely with other team members including Communications and Public Engagement.
Expected qualifications:
  • Relevant degree or similar demonstrable experience. 
  • Minimum 3 years community-based development experience (in-field focus).
  • Proven understanding of participatory tools and an ability to apply tools appropriately.
  • Proven experience of delivering innovative small-scale business solutions a distinct advantage.
  • Knowledge of practical DRR/Resilience within the Indonesian context.
  • An understanding of the national Resilient Village programme an advantage. 
  • Creativity and the ability to seek practical solutions a necessity.
  • An awareness of disability issues and an understanding of the principles of inclusion required.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills. 
  • Bahasa Indonesia and English language skills.
