The Wildlife Conservation Society – Indonesia Program (WCS-IP) is currently seeking for qualified candidates to fill the following vacancies:
Wildlife Crime Unit (WCU) Program Assistant (Base Medan)
The WCU Program Assistant will responsible:
1. To work with WCU Medan Project Officer.The Program Assistant will works with WCU Medan Project Officer to investigate illegal hunting, trading, smuggling, and keeping of wildlife in Aceh and North Sumatra. The main species targets of investigation are tiger, elephant, rhino, orangutan, and tiger preys. However, the surveillance will be extended to other species if it is necessary depending on the need.
2. To set up secure intelligence works with WCU informants.The Program Assistant will carry out routine inspection in the field to verify information of wildlife hunting, trading, or smuggling in Aceh and North Sumatra. The Program Assistant also works with his/her informant to verify and gather strong evidence of wildlife trafficking.
3. To set up secure collaboration with local government and partner.Program Assistant will be working with BKSDA's and local NGO's informant to carry out joint surveillance on wildlife hunting, trading, and smuggling. The collaboration should be designed by strong protocol and will be carried out carefully and securely among agents to avoid information leaks.
4. To set up informant in North Sumatra and Aceh.The Program Assistant should create informant network in Aceh and North Sumatra, and the main target area is in Leuser Landscape. The Program Assistant also responsible to maintain informant to support intelligence and necessary information regularly from their area.
5. As backup agent to WCU covered are through out Indonesia.The Program Assistant will be prepared as a backup agent to support intelligent works in Java and Southern Sumatra. The Program Assistant will be sent to other WCU area and works together with WCU agents in Java and Southern Sumatra to support law enforcement operation or surveillance.
6. To deliver monthly intelligence reports.The Program Assistant should send the monthly reports to WCU Medan Project Officer. The reports includes intelligence report and activity report (form pengendali). The WCU Medan Project Officer will evaluate the Program Assistant works based on the activity and intelligence reports.
7. To deliver monthly finance report.The Program Assistant should send the monthly finance report to WCU Medan Project Officer. The money request and finance report will be delivered to WCU Medan Project Officer.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum 3 years experienced to carry out covert surveillance and intelligence works related with wildlife crimes.2. Have ability to identify protected wildlife and parts in Indonesia.3. Have a skill to monitor and investigate of wildlife trade on bird market in Indonesia.4. Minimum 3 years experienced to manage informants and set up operation to arrest suspect related with wildlife crimes.5. Have a skill to work under pressure and dangerous situation, also following the intelligence protocols in term of security issue.6. Able to communicate and preparing the intelligence reports in English (speaking and writing)7. Able to travel intensively and to operate surveillance equipment; GPS, hidden camera, VCR.8.
