Vacancy at CI Indonesia - Ecosystem Services Coordinator base in Mandailing Natal & Tapanuli Selatan

Conservation International, an international non-governmental organization, is seeking to fill 2 position of Ecosystem Services Coordinator to be base Mandailing Natal & Tapanuli Selatan.

The Sustainable Landscapes Partnership (SLP) program will establish a replicable model of public-private partnerships that foster low carbon development opportunities, thereby helping to address global climate change and contribute to economic growth. The SLP will combine public (USAID) and private philanthropic (Walton Family Foundation) funding into an initial $20 million Facility focused on catalyzing low carbon private sector investment in specific landscapes of high conservation value in Indonesia over a five-year period.  This Facility will invest in low carbon and Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) development activities and business models that seek to reduce or eliminate deforestation and associated CO2 emissions.

The Ecosystem Services Coordinator (ESC) is responsible for facilitating the payment/compensation of ecosystem services (PES) schemes development in Madina and Tapsel districts.  It is a field officer position and reports directly to the Senior Manager for Ecosystem Services and USAID SLP COP. This key position will closely work with other SLP Teams: Communication, Livelihood and Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP).  

Key to this role will be the ability to provide technical and management oversight for the following:
  • Promote PES schemes for conserving the  natural and social capitals;
  • Facilitate the district government institutions to develop PES regulation; 
  • Facilitate the PES agreement between PES Users and PES Providers
  • Develop the local intermediary organization for managing the PES budget
  • Assist the fair and transparent of PES transactions
  • Assist the monitoring and evaluation of PES effectiveness in priority places of USAID SLP project.
The Ecosystem
Services Coordinator (ESC) will report directly to the Senior Manager of Ecosystem Services and Sustainable Landscapes Partnership Chief of Party but with overall management coordinate by the senior manager.

Responsibilities:
  • Project Development and Implementation Facilitate the lesson learn of PES projects in Indonesia to key stakeholders. Assist the district government and/or private to develop the PES regulations through participatory approaches. Assist the PES providers to restore/manage/protect the ecosystem service flows. Identify the potential local intermediary organization for managing the PES budget. Identify the potential PES users.
  • Project Reporting and Administration Ensure that monthly, bi-annual and annual reports are submitted on time for review; Assist M&E PES systems are in place. Ensure that field expenses are allowable and in line with budget proposals and USAID regulations. Consider innovative ways of capturing and communicating key program successes and achievements. 
  • Capacity Building and Partnerships Conduct capacity building and technical assistant to the PES providers in managing/restoring/protecting the ecosystem services flows. Partnership with local community, NGOs and CSOs. Promote experience-based learning processes and policy feedback loops/mechanisms with the SLP field programs and partner government, private sector, and civil society organizations;
Qualifications:
  • Has degree in management and natural resource management-related science with a minimum 3 years of experience;
  • At least 3 years work experienced in developing Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) projects in Indonesia
  • Extensive management and leadership experience; 
  • Experience in facilitating and developing PES projects in Indonesia;
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations with a wide range of people in both the public and private sectors, including business, government, non-governmental organizations, donor organizations, local communities, consultants and volunteers. 
  • Knowledge and background in the customs and government organizations of Indonesia.
  • Willingness to travel and work long hours, including work in arduous field conditions, often to remote areas and work weekends and after hours as needed.
  • Have a good scientific knowledge of ecosystem services 
  • Proven record of success as part of interdisciplinary project teams;
  • Good communication skills and develop network;
  • Fluent in English (Speaking, Reading and Writing);
  • Computer literate; humorist, hardworking, easygoing.
