SUSTAINABLE FINANCING SPECIALIST for the BIRD’S HEAD SEASCAPE
The Sustainable Financing Specialist provides technical advice and support to The Nature Conservancy’s program in the Papuan Bird’s Head Seascape. S/he develops innovative methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address sustainable marine resource use and management, in particular, focusing on good governance, institutional capacity building and sustainable financing. S/he will work with government, non-government and private sector partners at the regency, provincial and national level to develop opportunities to improve government funding for marine protected areas in Raja Ampat and the wider West Papua/Bird’s Head Seascape. S/he will explore alternative revenue streams for marine protected areas to ensure there are sufficient resources for effective management.
S/he will focus on developing and guiding the implementation of the Conservancy’s transition strategy, to ensure site based programs are effectively managed by the local government, communities and other relevant partners. S/he will assist in communicating the Conservancy’s transition strategy and new direction to partners.
The Sustainable Financing Specialist will be responsible for building institutional capacity for marine protected area management. S/he disseminates best practices, provides training and analyses to best implement organizational measures of success, and develops key partnerships with government, public and private organizations in order to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best practices. S/he will be responsible for writing up high level technical documents, and will be responsible for ensuring The Conservancy’s work at the site level is shared and leveraged across other sites in Indonesia and where relevant the wider Coral Triangle.
In this role, s/he will support the Bird’s Head Portfolio Manager to prepare work plans and budgets in line with the Conservancy and donors, and to meet conservation deliverables in the Bird’s Head. This position will report to the Bird’s Head Portfolio Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree and 7-10 years of experiences in developing good governance and sustainable financing frameworks and systems, and building the capacity of local institutions to manage natural resources.
- Successful experience in partnership development (partners, community, government, etc.) including extensive networking with high-level conservation contacts; political savvy
- Knowledge of marine protected areas, especially in Indonesia is an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
- Successful experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects and objectives.
- Managing time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results.
- Communicating clearly via written and spoken English, and graphical means in English
- Proven interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
