Save the Children in Indonesia is changing for the better. We've begun to build a national organization that aims to be a strong, local, and self-sustaining voice for children in Indonesia. To this end, SC Indonesia has been designated as a “Prospect Member”. As ‘Prospect Member’ Indonesia has been identified as part of the next way of new member development, which focuses on strengthening and localizing our voice for children in strategic middle income countries. Indonesia has been authorized by member ballot to start fundraising locally as a first step towards building a financially sustainable local organization. Future work will also involve developing a strong local governance structure and building key partnerships with local government, the private sector, local civil society among others. Success of the pilot phase will set the Indonesia on a pathway to full membership. We are currently seeking to fill the following position:
PROGRAM ROVING COMMUNICATION OFFICER
1 (One) positions based in Jakarta
Role purpose:
To inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and in line with our theory of change, Save the Children aims to be a credible and powerful voice for children; because of this and in support of the organizational and internal communication elements of our strategy, we know that communication and media outreach is critical to Save the Children success.
Under the Communication Coordinator and Organizational & Internal Communication Manager, the Communications Officer will work closely with providing editorial, creative and operational support across Save the Children Indonesia’s work through Yayasan Sayangi Tunas Cilik. He or she will play a key role in ensuring our communications are both influential and informative for the full range of our stakeholders.
He/she will work as part of the team to deliver flexible, cost effective and class-leading communications to enable YSTC achieve its objectives across organization by achieving targeted and effective profile in a variety of media and through the delivery of quality communication products.
The post holder will work alongside others teams to organize events, identify and generate story opportunities, s/he will react to major breaking stories, write newsworthy press materials (press releases, case studies, media briefings)
Qualifications and experience
- Degree or equivalent in communications, public relations or related areas.
- At least 3 years experience in communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia
- Having basic understanding on writing, photography and videography
- Experience with events management.
- Ability to work fast, effectively and independently in often high pressure environments, working across a number of teams to deliver high communications output.
- Sound understanding and ability to use different communication tools or software
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and make decisions on what to prioritise when working under pressure on a number of projects.
- Good understanding and ability to use media to undertake campaigns and advocacy work.
- Sound understanding of the major economic, social development and poverty issues as well as child rights issues in Indonesia.
- Experience in working in multicultural environment.
- Innovative and creative approach to problem solving.
- Commitment to YSTC values.
- Experience of, and willingness to travel in the country, sometimes at short notice and for extended periods of time.
