Reporting to the Communications Manager (Southeast Asia), the Communications Officer is responsible planning and managing public communications activities in Indonesia to raise visibility, awareness and acceptance of MSF in the country by promoting the profile and identity of the organization, as well as its worldwide activities and humanitarian concerns, via media, public events, and targeted groups among the general public. Reporting to the Communications Manager (Southeast Asia), the Communications Officer is responsible planning and managing public communications activities in Indonesia to raise visibility, awareness and acceptance of MSF in the country by promoting the profile and identity of the organization, as well as its worldwide activities and humanitarian concerns, via media, public events, and targeted groups among the general public. The major responsibilities of this position are:
- Contribute in the formulation of MSF public communications strategies in Indonesia, in coherence with the overall communications strategy of MSF in the region and by providing an analysis of the media landscape as well as incorporating an understanding of the cultural and political nuances and the operational direction and discussions in the mission taking into account different communications needs, language as well as culture
- Manage media relations for regular and quality coverage of MSF's work and worldwide humanitarian crises
- Build up concrete contact and network with key local, national, and international media representatives in the country
- Plan and organise public events and activities in Indonesia for MSF visibility, acceptance building, support to representation and advocacy in the country
- Promote public events and/or other visibility activities of MSF in the country
- Supervise and handle relevant human resources management on volunteers and at times events assistant in some big events
- Produce communications materials in a timely and accurate manner and dispense it to targeted audiences in Indonesia
- Contribute in the development and implementation of a strategy for building and strengthening the linkages of MSF with medical and non-medical communities, relevant NGOs, potential supporters and the general public
- In coordination with Communications Manager (SE Asia), provide field communications support to activities of MSF operations in the country in collaboration with operational centre/s
- Minimum 3 years' journalistic or public relations experience
- At least 1 year experience in organizing events and relevant experience in the execution of small to medium scale event and project coordination; experience in big-scale event execution is desirable
- Strong interest and knowledge in world affairs
- Good knowledge of local media in Indonesia
- Experience working with NGO/INGO is desirable
- Commitment to the aims and values of Medecins Sans Frontieres
- Ability to work independently but also a good team player
- Fluency in both spoken and written English and Bahasa Indonesia is a must
- Good presentation and solid experience in translation and copy writing
- Ability to work under pressure and to respect deadlines
- Flexible and willing to travel
