The Rainforest Alliance Job Vacancy: Senior Associate, Palm Oil - Indonesian

Position Summary:
The Senior Associate, Palm Oil will be responsible for providing project coordination to support the successful implementation of smallholder palm oil development projects in the Asia Pacific region. S/he will liaise and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholder organizations. Additionally, s/he will oversee performance by implementing partners, provide technical services, source appropriate technologies and consulting services, and provide reports on project progress, monitoring and evaluation, finance, and other project areas. Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Palm oil, the Senior Associate, Palm Oil will support the development and coordinate the Rainforest Alliance’s palm oil program in Asia and serve as a technical resource to staff working on palm projects in other regions. 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior Manager in supervising project implementation, including compliance with deliverables, budgetary execution, preparation of donor reports as per contractual commitments, and compliance with internal Rainforest Alliance procedures;
  • Work closely with Landscape and Livelihoods’ Monitoring and Evaluation/ Quality Assurance to ensure efficient and effective implementation of appropriate standards, processes and tools;
  • Represent Rainforest Alliance as needed with local donors, government representatives, visiting dignitaries, and other outside parties;
  • Maintain relationships with project donors, project partners, corporate producers, implementation partners, NGOs, academic organizations, multiple stakeholder organizations, government, civil service bureaucracies, and community/ civil society organizations;
  • Coordinate with local project partners for the planning and timely delivery of technical support provided by Rainforest Alliance's specialists to field implementation. This includes providing technical services, sourcing appropriate technologies and consulting services, and providing regular reports on project progress, monitoring and evaluation, finance, and other project areas; 
  • Support the efforts of the Senior Manager, Palm Oil to grow Rainforest Alliance’s palm program in Asia by identifying new project opportunities for business expansion;
  • Support new project development through proposal drafting and revision;
  • Coordinate with Rainforest Alliance’s Evaluation & Research and the Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Quality Assurance teams to monitor and record results from our activities in collaboration with our implementing partners and research institutes;
  • Organize logistical support for international specialists, journalists, project auditors and other stakeholders who visit the project; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position may oversee staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, natural resource management, or related field required. Advanced degree preferred though substitution through demonstrable and validated experience is an acceptable substitute;
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in project management, planning and monitoring;
  • First-hand knowledge of the concepts of sustainable agriculture and detailed knowledge of the palm oil industry;
  • Understanding of market value chains and certification of sustainably produced commodities;
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, to assess priorities and to multi-task with strong attention to detail;
  • Administrative efficiency, with the ability to track project progress and prepare timely reports, and competence in the main computer software programs;
  • Demonstrated professional capability in written and spoken English;
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to take initiative, attention to detail and work independently;
  • Ability to communicate and engage with diverse stakeholders including farmers, governments, companies, donor representatives and NGOs; and
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 25% of the time.
