The Nature Conservancy Job Vacancy: Communication Intern - Sorong, Papua

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people.

We currently have internship opportunities as follows:

Communication Intern
Location: Sorong

Reporting to the Communications Coordinator, the intern will:
  • Support media monitoring and clipping 
  • Support documentation archiving and database (photo, video, scientific publications and reports) 
  • Support in writing success stories and/or lessons learned of TNC activities
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree or currently studying in a subject related to natural resource management, agriculture, forestry or communications 
  • Interested in conservation/biodiversity/environmental issues 
  • Ability to sell ideas to a wide variety of people/groups 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated experience in MS Office, Word and Excel.  Familiarity with Pagemaker, Adobe Photoshop or related program for media artwork 
  • Ability to organize time and manage diverse activities
Marine Field Data Management Intern
Location: Jakarta

Reporting to the Conservation Science Specialist, the intern will:
  • Learn about TNC’s field monitoring or surveys, protocols, data input and analysis and data management from an offline data storage into an online database 
  • Learn and execute filing system with TNC database
  • Reorganize monitoring data files
  • Conduct basic analysis of field data for management purposes
  • Upload field data files into an online database
  • Prepare guidelines on using Data Library
Qualifications
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or other related fields, with special reference on mathematics and database skill.  Or an undergraduate degree on Mathematics, Statistics or other related major with familiarity in biological/ecological mathematics/statistics. Previous work experience on data management will be a useful skill to have
  • Proficiency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, verbally and in writing and have the ability to cross translate between these two languages.
  • Interested in conservation/biodiversity/environmental issues
  • Familiar with basic ecology, preferably Social-Ecological Systems
  • Familiar with simple statistics of inference; familiarity with advanced statistics and multivariate statistics will be an advantage 
  • Computer literate: proficient in MC Office, MS Excel in particular and Internet navigation are required. Proficiency in MS Access database will be an advantage
  • Pleasant personality (friendly, team player, quick learner, creative and willing to take on a variety of tasks).
