Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer, with functional guidance from the Associate Durable Solutions Officer, and the overall supervision of the Senior Protection Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties in his/her area of responsibility:
Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer, with functional guidance from the Associate Durable Solutions Officer, and the overall supervision of the Senior Protection Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties in his/her area of responsibility:
- Implement comprehensive solutions programs and assist with related case processing;
- Maintain contact with local authorities on the arrival of boats to the area of responsibility, and regularly collect and share with supervisors any information collected on these movements;
- Conduct child protection assessments and best interests determinations, and make recommendations on protection interventions, for unaccompanied and separated children and other vulnerable individuals, in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with UNHCR guidelines and procedural standards;
- Assist in liaising with relevant government counterparts, particularly immigration, police and local authorities, as well as operational partners in the area of responsibility, on all matters pertaining to asylum and protection of UNHCR’s persons of concern (PoCs);
- Undertake monitoring of PoCs and conduct regular visits to community accommodation centers in the area of responsibility to provide counseling to PoCs and to follow up on protection concerns, particularly in the area of child protection;
- Conduct registration of asylum seekers and provide relevant counseling on asylum procedures;
- Assist in compiling monthly reports on activities in the area of responsibility;
- Assist in managing finance and administration formalities for operational needs in the area of responsibility, and assist in preparing detailed and accurate monthly financial reports;
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
Competencies: Empowering and Building Trust, Managing Resources,
Analytical Thinking, Political Awareness, and Stakeholder Management.
Education: Minimum completion of secondary education but preferably a
university degree in Law, Social Work, Social Sciences, or related
discipline.
Experience: Four (4) years work experience in child protection or
similar area, or in the wider human rights field. Experience working
with children and in a multi-cultural environment or international
context is an asset.
Nationality: Citizen of Indonesia; non-citizen with Indonesian permanent residence.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and Bahasa Indonesia
(written and oral) highly essential; knowledge of other UN languages is
an asset.
Desirable Skills: Good written and oral communication skills;
computer literacy; good knowledge of child protection principles and
UNHCR’s protection mandate; understanding of interviewing techniques,
particularly with children; ability to work independently with minimal
supervision.
Working Relationships
- Within UNHCR involving the exchange of a wide range of information;
- With external parties: local authorities, NGOs, and international organizations.
