The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the Economic Governance Unit
Australia’s support in the Economic Governance area is valued by Indonesian counterparts for its high quality technical assistance, and its flexibility and responsiveness, which results in high levels of demand for support across a range of institutions and policy areas related to Economic Governance.

DFAT’s support in this area is delivered through three programs:
- Australia Indonesia Partnership for Economic Governance (AIPEG) – a flexible facility that provides technical assistance and capacity building support to Indonesian agencies responsible for developing and implementing economic policies.
- Government Partnerships Fund (GPF) – a Whole of Government (WoG) facility that supports government-to-government partnerships between Australian and Indonesian government agencies working in the area of economic and public reform.
- Support for Enhance Macroeconomic and Fiscal Policy Analysis (SEMEFPA) – a World Bank implemented program supporting the Fiscal Policy Agency (FPA) in the Ministry of Finance to improve its capacity for economic and fiscal policy analysis.
The
new aid paradigm of Australian Government that focusing on economic
growth and economic diplomacy heightened the focus and importance of the
support in this area. Therefore, the work is currently underway to
design potential expansion of these programs to address key challenges
in achieving strong and sustainable growth for Indonesia.
About the Position
The Program Officer is responsible for providing administrative and logistical support to a small team responsible for delivering programs in the Economic Governance sector.

The key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
- Provide day-to-day logistical, administrative and secretarial support for the Counsellor and Unit staff
- Build and maintain networks required for unit administration, including within DFAT (Canberra and Jakarta) and with Government of Indonesia agencies, international development partners and non-governmental organisations
- Administer smaller value and lower risk programs and contracts, including monitoring and evaluating program and partner performance, budgeting and reviewing documents, occasional drafting and submission under guidance from Unit staff
- Liaise with staff within the Unit to arrange programs for visiting missions, and escort visiting missions when necessary
- Attend relevant public forums where necessary, including note-taking and simple interpreting for non-Indonesian staff, and report back to Unit staff
- Undertake financial management and coordination duties.
- A relevant university degree
- Ability to prioritise work and contribute to team thinking
- Ability to liaise with other Australian Government agencies, managing contractors, and Indonesian Government officials
- Well-developed administrative skills
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in English and Indonesian including excellent writing skills
- Experience working in an Australian Government institution or in the international development context are desired
- Experience in handling a wide range of administrative related tasks.
- Sound organisational and demonstrated capacity to exercise common sense and judgement.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and a demonstrated ability to prepare routine correspondence.
- Ability to work under pressure in a team environment to meet deadlines in accordance with set priorities.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office applications suite.
