FAO Vacancy: Communications and Reporting Officer, Padang

FAO Indonesia is currently seeking for a Communciations and Reporting Officer to be based in Padang.

On Monday, October 25, 2010, such the Mentawai Islands experienced an earthquake and tsunami, which caused loss and damages to the amount of 348,92 billion IDR, with the major impact on the productive economy. To support the Government of Indonesia’s efforts for recovery on the Mentawai Islands, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UN-FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have formulated a joint livelihoods recovery programme under the guidance of the Office of the Resident Coordinator.

The Communications and Reports Officer will work in close collaboration with the National Technical Advisor (Agriculture) and shall be responsible for report writing as well as developing and implementing the visibility and communication strategy. He/she will also support in the effective and timley delivery of FAO outputs and ensure alignment with the programme part of partner UN agencies in close collaboration with government counterparts, donors, and other relevant stakeholders.

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and under the direct supervision of the FAOR-A Programme and the Operations Coordinator, the Communications and Reporting Officer will perform the below a range of duties related to the objectives of the FAO Mentawai Islands Livelihoods Recovery Programme:

Communication, Coordination and Visibility Strategy:
In consultation with and in receipt of prior endorsement from the FAO Indonesia Country Office, develop and implement the communication and visibility strategy of the project:

  • Oversee the monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment of project activities, and analyze programme results and lessons learnt and identify best practices for documentation and information sharing 
  • Interact and establish communication channels with counterparts of both Central and local governments, NGOs, private sector companies as well as with concerned partner UN agencies and key stakeholders;
  • Intensify and maintain a steady flow of information on the project amongst all partners and stakeholders
  • Write project updates, including human interest stories
  • Contribute to the production and collection of project information material (photo’s, CDs, fact sheets, posters, etc.)
Write and Edit Project Reports:
  • Ensure that reports are developed using professional business writing and formatting with comprehensive analytical presentation of information 
  • Prepare project updates and situational reports as required by FAO Country Office
  • Facilitate compilation of data and information from different project components for development of comprehensive project reports in a timely manner
  • In coordination with the National Technical Advisor and partnering UN agencies, monitor, review, assess and report on all dimensions of project components
  • Any other tasks

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Academic Qualifications:

  • University degree, preferably Masters 
  • Approximately 5 years information and communications experience
Technical Competencies and Experience Requirements:
Proven experience and ability to write in English clearly, accurately and creatively

  • Strong writing, composition and editing skills in both English and Bahasa Indonesia 
  • Familiarity with agricultural development issues in Indonesia, especially in West Sumatera
  • Ability to manage priorities and workload within general schedule of work, instructions and standardized practices.

Duty Station:
Padang, Indonesia with in- country travel as required

Duration:
3 months initial contract with possibility of extension depending on funding availability and performance.
