USAID C4J Vacancy: Community Engagement Specialist, Jakarta

Chemonics International Inc., a leading international consulting firm, seeks to fill the following long-term, full-time position for a project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Indonesia Changes for Justice (C4J) Project. The primary objective of the C4J project is to improve the performance of Indonesia’s justice system, a prerequisite for good governance and sustained economic growth, through cooperation with the Supreme Court and Attorney General’s Office (AGO) of the Republic of Indonesia and with rural communities.

Community Engagement Specialist

The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for cooperating with C4J project staff and other donor-funded programs to implement biodiversity program activities to train and empower local communities, namely paralegals, on more effectively accessing information and utilizing the formal legal system to resolve disputes. Duties include extensive writing responsibilities and travel. 

Qualifications

Applicants for Community Engagement Specialist should have a degree in law, social science, and/or environmental management or higher. Knowledge of issues related to biodiversity conservation, forestry, natural resource management, climate change and sustainable development, as well as on community-based natural resource management is required. A minimum of 5 years experience with community engagement is required. Experiences working in Aceh, Riau and West Kalimantan is preferred. An understanding of the Indonesian justice system is preferred. Experience working with government and international organizations in Indonesia is preferred. Management and team-building experience and the ability to work independently are required. Creativity in addressing environmental and conservation challenges, and ability to express ideas in concept notes, formal proposals, discussions, and public presentation are required. Prior experience with technical assistance projects and work with donor-funded projects is preferred. Indonesia citizenship is required. Written and verbal fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required. Strong inter-personal, communications, management, and leadership skills are required. Demonstrated skills with software packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required.
