Title: Agricultural cooperative manager
Responsible to: K77 cooperative Board of Directors
Direct reports: Product development supervisors (2-4 to be appointed)
Background
CUKK
has a membership base of more than 130,000 (August 2013) located in six
districts in West Kalimantan: Sangau, Sekadau, Melawi, Sintang, Kapuas
Hulu, and Pontianak. While more than half of these members derive their
primary income from the agricultural sector, agricultural and renewable
energy supply markets are underdeveloped and unable to meet farmer
demand.
In
alignment with CUKK’s mission to, “To provide responsible and
sustainable financial services to reduce poverty and improve living
standards”, the
CUKK board and its members established a new agricultural cooperative,
K77, in September 2013. K77 has a mission to provide products and
services that meet the needs of CUKK farmer members and support farmers’
income growth. The K77 board seeks an experienced and highly motivated
professional to lead the business development of the cooperative.
Scope of Position
The
Agricultural cooperative manager’s primary role is to design and
implement a sustainable business model for the delivery of agricultural
products and services to CUKK farmer members by: reviewing existing
supply channels developed by CUKK members; conducting market research
pilots among the CUKK member base; delivering detailed feasibility
studies on proposed product offerings; designing and implementing a
business case for the cooperative.
Location:
Sintang, West Kalimantan. The role will include local travel within
West Kalimantan and requires approximately 50 percent of the manager’s
time to be spent in the field. Initially a 6 month contract, the role is
expected to become a longer-term position.
Responsibilities and tasks
- Develop and implement a sustainable business model for the delivery of agricultural products & services
- Lead market research activities; collate information from existing CUKK and other sources and arrange or conduct interviews/surveys as necessary
- Conduct detailed feasibility studies for product offerings proposed by the Board & members
- Identify partners and key actors within the supply chain for each product offering and create a detailed logistics plan
- Design and implement pilot programs for the delivery of up to four products and provide detailed quantitative reports on progress
- Develop a detailed sales plan for the delivery of the full suite of K77 products; the plan should be financially sustainable while delivering on the mission of the cooperative
- Lead K77 team and effectively manage board and member interactions
- Identify human resource needs and build a strong team to deliver K77 services
- Coordinate professional development activities for K77 team
- Deliver timely and regular reports to board and members
- Manage strategic partnerships
- Develop strong network linkages with CUKK and complimentary service providers in West Kalimantan
- Facilitate interactions between K77 and international partners; provide program data for annual reports, and host delegations as required
Experience
Essential
- At least 5 years of experience in agriculture and retail business or experience in managing cooperative sectors
- Bachelors degree in any of the following fields: economics, management, business, marketing, communications, engineering
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage diverse audiences
- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesian
- Ability to communicate in basic written English
- Driver’s licence (car or motorbike)
- Intermediate computer skills (must be familiar with Excel)
Preferred
- Ability to communicate in spoken English
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office products
- Experience mentoring, coaching or developing capacity among teams
- Ability to demonstrate specific experience in any or all of the following: business development, supply chain logistics & management, marketing strategy, advocacy, negotiation, or management
