The Wildlife Conservation Society, a U.S. based international organization, seeks candidates to serve as Deputy Director for WCS’s Indonesia Program. This is an extraordinary opportunity focused on the conservation of Indonesia’s iconic species such as tigers and Asian elephants, on the conservation of critical wildlife landscapes both inside and outside protected areas across the country, and on reducing the trafficking of wildlife.
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the oversight of and support of the WCS-Indonesia Program (WCS-IP) in all areas of program development. This role supports WCS-IP management team in the development and implementation of the strategic plans and policies, provides leadership and direction to the whole program including field operations. The Deputy Director – Indonesia Program works closely with the Country Director, the Finance and Administration Team and with WCS-NY to ensure that the organization has effective and efficient functions in place and that those functions operate at levels in line with agreed upon organizational standards. The Deputy Director - Indonesia Program maintains appropriate communication with WCS Project leads, key donors and funding agencies and local government institutions.

Responsibilities:
- Oversight of WCS-Indonesia’s programmatic activities.
- Contributing to the development of overall and thematic strategic plans.
- Project development in line with strategic plans including developing donor relations and proposal writing.
- Establishing and maintaining comprehensive workplans for all WCS-Indonesia Program projects.
- Ensuring effective coordination between programmatic activities and the administrative and financial aspects of WCS-Indonesia Program through regular and efficient communications with the Finance and Administration Team.
- Responsible for coordinating technical reporting to donors, government agencies, and other WCS offices.
- Provides guidance, as requested by the Country Director, for fundraising and donor management, business development and partnership activities;
- Direct line management responsibility for all non-finance and administrative project staff
- Represents the organization to the government, donors, public, other key stakeholders and partners; and ensure good working relationship with the following are maintained
- Oversight of staff and partner training within all projects.
- Improving WCS-Indonesia Program operations through the analysis of program and project outcomes and adapting management and strategies in response.
- Coordinating and producing promotional material including overseeing web-site and producing project factsheets.
Qualifications and Compensation:
Applicants should have Ph.D. or Masters degree and equivalent experience in a field related to the conservation of biological diversity, preferably in an Asian context; 3 years minimum of management experience in conservation programs; ability to foster teamwork within the program; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a range of cultural contexts; significant and diverse fundraising experience. Salary level commensurate with experience.
