DEVELOPMENT MANAGER 

Fair Trade USA seeks a Development Manager to join the Resource Development team in a fast paced, collaborative and dynamic work environment. The role will focus on driving foundation leads, proposal development, grant reporting and overall development communications with the support of two Development Staff. This position reports directly to the Director of Resource Development.   Key responsibilities include: 
  • Work closely with the Director of Development, CEO,  other team members and departments to implement collaborative, organization-wide strategies to meet aggressive annual and long-term fundraising goals 
  • Manage and develop a strong funder pipeline to significantly increase the foundation (corporate and private) and government donor portfolio; 
  • Responsible for initial annualized goal of at least $750,000-$1,000,000 to be agreed upon with the Director, which may increase over time as appropriate; 
  • Responsible for direct relationship management and cultivation of existing and future foundation and government agency contacts;
  • Drive and manage development of compelling concept notes, proposals, and prospect communications (both written and oral) as well as grant reporting, compliance and budgeting. 
  • Lead project and program design and budget development in collaboration with Supply Chain, Business Development, Innovation, Finance departments. 
  • Create and manage an annual fundraising communications plan to include monthly e-news letter, social media presence, direct mail promotions, appeal letters, year-end fundraising, promotional activities and special campaigns with the support of the Development Specialist and Development Assistant. 
  • Represent Fair Trade USA at key speaking events, donor meetings, networking functions and conferences in the evenings or weekends, as needed.
 JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, International Development, or related field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years work experience in developing LOIs, concept notes and proposals; managing grant writing, budgeting, reporting; nonprofit development communications.
  •  Demonstrated success and fundraising record of securing a minimum of $750,000-$1,000,000 million in local, regional, federal, government agency, foundation and/or corporate grant awards for current or past organizations.
  • Proven ability to prepare annual and multi-year programmatic budgets.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish: You must be able to speak, write and translate from Spanish to English and vice-versa with ease and confidence.
  • Proven experience managing and mentoring an Assistant or Associate level Development or Communications staff person.
  • Knowledge of local and international funding environment(s) and philanthropic trends.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally at least 15% of the year.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
  • Salesforce experience. 
  • Master’s degree in International Development, Environmental Resource Management (Climate Change), Sustainable Development or related field. 
  • Previous program management experience as this demonstrates understanding of M&E practices, data gathering and reporting ability. 
  • Working, functional knowledge of international development tools and frameworks i.e. Logical Framework Approach and Results-Based Framework preferred.
  • Connections to or familiarity with foundations, corporations or international development agencies and firms. 
  • Self-motivated, attention to detail, patience and the ability to stay calm under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Flexibility and a good sense of humor!
