Conservation International,
an international non-governmental organization, is seeking to fill a senior position of Deputy Chief of Party, Sustainable Landscapes Partnership to be base in Medan.
The Sustainable Landscapes Partnership (SLP) program will establish a replicable model of public-private partnerships that foster low carbon development opportunities, thereby helping to address global climate change and contribute to economic growth. The SLP will combine public (USAID) and private philanthropic (Walton Family Foundation) funding into an initial $20 million Facility focused on catalyzing low carbon private sector investment in specific landscapes of high conservation value in Indonesia over a five-year period. This Facility will invest in low carbon and Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) development activities and business models that seek to reduce or eliminate deforestation and associated CO2 emissions.
The DCOP will oversee a team of up to ten positions (some to be appointed) within the North Sumatra program area and will be responsible for local coordination, monitoring and development of the annual SLP work-plan and Sustainable Investment Action Plans in two pilot districts (Mandailing Natal and Tapanuli Selatan). A particular focus will be to ensure accurate and timely financial and program reporting, supervision of program
personnel. The DCOP will assume a key role in assisting the SLP COP with preparation of annual workplans, budgets and revisions to the PMP where required.

Coordination will also be required with the Asia-Pacific Field Division, Indonesia program leadership and operations staff, and CI’s Science Division.

- Ensure high quality leadership and CI representation and decision-making to the SLP Management Council, Associates Council and Steering Committee;
- Private sector engagement and support to the COP for management of the SLP Associates Committee;
- Provide input and leadership in the technical design and implementation of SLP investment plans (SIAP) and other identified interventions;
- Together with the SSPM ensure that interventions and activities being conducted in SLP program sites (GHG plans, spatial planning, SEA, etc) are focused on developing capacity, achieving SLP goals as well as focuses on sustainability, replication and amplification.
- Together with the SLP COP the DCOP (and CI-HQ personnel) will assist in the identification, development and management of public-private partnerships under SLP;
- Provide technical expertise in practical market analysis, review of investment decisions proposed either in the SIAP or via alternative opportunities as they arise;
- Assume a key role in supporting the management and coordination of SLP investments in Indonesia
- Oversight of SLP administration and operations (Finance, HR, etc) in the North Sumatran landscape as well as SLP more broadly when the COP is on leave or travelling.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management or related field and minimum 15 years of experience with public-private partnerships, natural resource management, forestry, energy, agribusiness, value/supply chain analysis and/or relevant sectors, or equivalent degree and work experience.
- At least 3 years’ experience as Deputy Chief of Party for major AID agencies or equivalent experience.
- Proven leadership in the administration of similar complex international programs with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision and budgeting.
- Ideal candidate would have experience managing large scale private sector investments in Indonesia or Southeast Asia in natural resource management (forestry) or agribusiness/value chain sectors (green supply chains, low carbon development, etc).
- Preference given for practical and relevant commercial/private sector experience (forestry, natural resource management or agri-business) an advanced degree in Economics, Business (MBA) or other relevant fields.
- Knowledge of conservation issues in Indonesia, especially as it relates to land use change due to agricultural pressure.
