ABA ROLI is a non-profit program that implements legal reform
programs in roughly 60 countries around the world. ABA ROLI has nearly
700 professional staff working abroad and in its Washington, D.C.
office. ABA ROLI’s host country partners include judges, lawyers, bar
associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures,
ministries of justice and a wide array of civil society organizations,
including human rights groups.
Job Summary:
The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative seeks a Project
Director for a regional program that works in close collaboration with
the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and builds on ABA
ROLI’s previous work on ASEAN and trafficking in persons, for duration
of up to 24 months. This will be a full-time position based in Jakarta,
Indonesia, with occasional travel throughout Southeast Asia.
The Project Director will manage technical assistance activities to
support ASEAN’s efforts to prevent and combat trafficking in persons by
assisting in inter-ASEAN cooperation, harmonization of laws and
implementation of prevention methods. The Project Director will be
responsible for high-level negotiations with relevant government
officials in ASEAN.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall responsibility for the program;
- Manage relations with donors and counterparts, including periodic reports to donors;
- Develop and implement long- and short-term strategies, work plans, and activities;
- Support technical activities, including training;
- Conduct financial oversight;
- Overall monitoring of program deliverables and impact;
- Provide administrative, logistical, and financial support related to the program.
Qualifications:
- A degree in law;
- Knowledge of human trafficking in a criminal setting;
- Prior experience with justice systems in ASEAN member states preferred;
- Strong Diplomacy skills;
- Experience working with both government officials and members of civil society Strong managerial skills;
- Fluency in English;
- Previous experience with U.S. government programs is preferred.
