CIFOR is looking for a Research Assistant for the REDD+ Benefits Sharing Project
The Research Assistant will be a part of the REDD+ Benefits Sharing Project. The main task of the Research Assistant is to support the research of Work Package (WP) 1. Other tasks will include support to project management and coordination, and to research the activities of the other WPs as needed and directed.
General duties and responsibilities
1. Participate in research:
• Assist in the collection, management and analysis of data related to REDD+ Benefit Sharing project;
• Assist in review of relevant REDD+ and climate policy documents of the six focal countries;
• Support and carry out literature reviews;
• Maintain an updated calendar/database of key events and ongoing research and projects on REDD+ benefit sharing led by other institutions, including government agencies, environmental and development, social advocacy NGOs, private companies and donor organisations;
• Support the preparation, writing and publication of research results/reports/policy briefs;
• Assist in other research activities as required.
2. Project Management support:
• Assist with reporting (donor reporting, workshop/meeting minutes, translation, etc);
• Assist in the organisation of workshops, training or field work as required;
• Assist in the development of annual workplans for the REDD+ Benefit Sharing project
• Other project administration duties as required by the project.
3. Facilitate coordination within the project and cross-programme:
• Participate in activities, meetings and discussions linked to the project, CRP6.4 and the Forests and Livelihoods Programme;
• Support management and tracking of project timelines and outputs;
• Contribute updates to the project website;
• Other coordination tasks as needed.
Details of duties, assignments and objectives will be further discussed and laid out in the staff’s annual performance contract.
Requirements
Education, experience and technical skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such in economics, forestry or natural resources management, etc. Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Demonstrated analytical skills.
• Knowledge of climate change and REDD issues is an advantage.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Strong computer skills in database, word processing and other relevant office applications. Knowledge of analytical software is an advantage.
Personal attributes and competencies:
• Competent in personal organisation and priority setting with the ability to work effectively under time pressures and manage multiple priorities.
• Have initiative and is capable of working independently as well as an effective team player.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with people in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
Terms and conditions
• CIFOR offers competitive remuneration commensurate with skills and experience.
• The appointment will be for a period of one year (including six months probation) with a possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
• The duty station will be at CIFOR headquarters in Bogor, Indonesia.
