The Global Green Growth Institute is looking to hire an outstanding natural resource and policy expert to support their program in Indonesia.
GGGI is dedicated to supporting developing and emerging countries to meet their own development and growth objectives by exploring and implementing green growth plans that simultaneously target key economic and environmental objectives. These include poverty reduction, job creation and social inclusion as well as mitigation and adaptation to climate change, biodiversity loss and energy and water security.
GGGI’s theory of change leads it to focus on three major outcomes: adoption and implementation of rigorous green growth plans that form the core of national and provincial economic development strategies; research which builds a strong theoretical and empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and guidance for policymakers; and
public-private partnerships that strengthen incentives for the scaling of resource-efficient investment, innovation and practice as well as for the engagement of companies in the implementation of national and subnational green growth plans.
Reporting to the Team Leader of the REDD+ workstream, and part of the global Green Growth Planning and Implementation (GGP& Indonesia) team, you will be responsible for providing strategic and targeted technical support to the REDD+ Team in assisting the Indonesian Government to improve and develop REDD+ funding disbursement mechanisms, and to support pilot programs which will test these mechanisms.
You will play a key role in the analysis on the development and implementation of REDD+ programs, policies, and incentive structures that can contribute to improve the performance and sustainability of reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. You will also help to facilitate efforts in capacity-building and active participation of key stakeholders. In addition, you will be involved in policy design and implementation support, public and private sector stakeholder engagement, and international knowledge sharing.
In particular, you and your team will work in close cooperation with officials from the Indonesian government and external experts to design an appropriate selection mechanism for REDD+ projects (including an assessment of past projects). You will provide support for the initial implementation of projects under the selected mechanism. As you implement the above, you will be sensitive to the importance of government ownership of the various
analytical assessments and outputs under this workstream.
All applicants must hold exemplary and relevant academic credentials, and ideally hold a post-graduate degree in a relevant subject from a leading academic institution. Individuals will also have at least 2 to 3 years of work experience on forestry, sustainable development, climate change or related discipline.

- University degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environment Ecological Economics or a related field;
- Detailed understanding of evolving REDD+ policies and "REDD+ Readiness" mechanisms;
- Broad knowledge of climate finance, international climate policy, REDD+, carbon markets and the social and environmental safeguard criterias related to REDD+;
- Broad knowledge on the required enabling environment to ensure a successful REDD+ program as well as the challenges and opportunities facing REDD+.
- Familiar with Indonesia National REDD+ Strategy and other related government plans at national and local levels;
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with leaders from a diverse array of sectors (government, business, NGO and community groups);
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in matrix-managed, multi-disciplinary teams and to operate effectively in a highly complex organizational context;
- Strong oral and written English is essential, fluency in Indonesian/Bahasa is essential.
