General Description
The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the Peace Corps Medical Officers (PCMOs) with the in- country Volunteer Health Support Program and medevac duties. The Medical Assistant will provide administrative and patient care services support for the Peace Corps Volunteers and trainees in the Peace Corps program in Indonesia in accordance with the Peace Corps Manual and the Technical Guidelines for Overseas Medical Staff. The Medical Assistant functions under the direct supervision of a PCMO.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, administering immunizations, performing laboratory tests, etc.
- Serves as a chaperone for Volunteers during medical examinations and procedures.
- Places and returns telephone calls for the Health Unit, including scheduling, modifying, and canceling appointments.
- Follows-up on outstanding consultant and laboratory reports.
- Prepares packages of medical supplies to be sent to PCVs, to the training sites and to other destinations, and forwards them to the appropriate administrative staff for delivery.
- Ensures an adequate supply of disposable materials, maintains internal medical inventory
- Responsible for updating internal medical inventory system when medication/supplies are delivered, dispensed and destroyed.
- Responsible for organization and shelving of Health Unit supplies.
- Maintains files, according to fiscal year, of all ordering, receiving and dispensing documents.
- Maintains strict medical confidentiality when dealing with all oral or written medical information related to Volunteers and trainees.
Related working experience:
- Two years progressively responsible related experience with knowledge of administrative medical duties related to health services. Clinical or pharmaceutical setting work experience desirable.
- Experience working with Americans or other foreigners in a medical context is preferred
- Must possess and demonstrate clinical skills, such as aseptic techniques, administering vaccines, pregnancy tests, taking vital signs….etc.
- Must possess and demonstrate high quality composition, personal organization, and time management skills with the ability to pay attention to small details.
- Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs; Microsoft Word and Excel knowledge required.
- Willingness to perform non-routine tasks in emergency situations.
- The position of Medical Assistant requires a mature individual capable of maintaining the strictest confidentiality regarding the treatment of patients in the Medical Unit.
- English fluency required. Must have sufficient fluency with spoken and written English to serve as a competent interpreter and translator as necessary for technical medical subjects.
- Shall be available and prepared to travel 20% of the time, as Volunteer and program needs dictate.
- A successful completion of medical school background and training including a degree and/or certification as a nurse or other medical professional with a valid registered clinical license/diploma is required (supporting documentation must be submitted).
