SNV Indonesia is looking for a: Master Trainer (National Staff)
SNV is a not-for-profit international development organisation. Founded in the Netherlands 50 years ago, we have built a long-term, local presence in 30 of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our global teams of local and international advisors work with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development.
SNV Indonesia is currently seeking for qualified national candidate to fill in the position as Master Trainer for Deforestation-Free Palm Oil Supply Chains project.
Developing Deforestation-Free Palm Oil Supply Chains
SNV was working with a consortium of international and local partners in Sumatra to develop deforestation-free palm oil supply chains. Together with private sector partners, SNV aims to continue that work across Sumatra and further scale this. The main aim is to divert the expansion of palm from the remaining forests and peatlands in our target landscapes and provide enhanced and alternative economic opportunities for communities.
Our Projects aim to support independent smallholders in improving their production practices in order to prevent deforestation to happen in the area and to increase their livelihoods. The primary beneficiaries of the program are Independent oil palm smallholders on mineral soils who are facing a loss of income due to ageing trees, who need replanting within the next 5 years. They will be assisted through training and inputs to implement more sustainable agriculture practices in order to increase production and income.
Secondary beneficiaries and partners are government agencies and private sector who will be assisted by the program with technical support and data collection about the conditions in the landscape to support policy, planning and decision-making. The project will aim to ensure that women are given equal access to project investments for which we have set a 30% target for this as a minimum. In addition, the project will give special attention to targeting vulnerable groups; the social and gender surveys that will be undertaken will help to tailor specific targets per village.
Better Management Practices
SNV has developed a Better Management Practices (BMP) curriculum that follows the RSPO standard and includes five modules on harvesting, plantation maintenance, plantation design, fertilization, and pest & disease management. This is combined with Environmental Awareness Training (EArT) to ensure plantations are managed appropriately.
The training program employs a high impact training (HIT) approach which is based on the principles of adult learning, recognizing that participants have existing knowledge and experience. The activity-based methods used allow for higher knowledge retention. In recognition of the varied education and literacy levels of smallholder participants and trainers, the materials are designed to be simple and highly visual.
Purpose of the Job
Implement specific assignment in the programme/ project within scope, budget, timeline and acceptable quality levels along the commitments specified in the contract signed with the donor, in line with SNV standards, SNV`s approach to Project Management and donor regulations in order to achieve high quality and timely the agreed results and deliverables of the project.
