Yayasan Inisiasi Alam Rehabilitasi Indonesia (Yayasan IAR Indonesia/YIARI) is a non-profit organization with a focus on the rescue, rehabilitation and conservation of wildlife. Yayasan IAR Indonesia rescues and rehabilitates orangutans, macaques and slow lorises with the aim to prepare these animals for release back into their natural habitat. Yayasan IAR Indonesia also engages in education and awareness programmes that convey messages to the public to treat all animals with compassion and care.

Yayasan IAR Indonesia is urgently looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and qualified individual to fill a vacant position as Geographic Information System (GIS) Service Provider. The selected candidate will be based at our office in Ketapang, West Kalimantan.

Requirements Education, Experience and Technical Skills:
  • At least a Bachelor degree (S1) in a relevant discipline (GIS, Geography, Remote Sensing, Forestry) with at least three years’ experience in GIS and data management.
  • Advanced knowledge in ArcGIS, Spatial Analysis and Image Processing software (e.g. Erdas Imagine, Envi, Definiens) as well as data management.
  • Basic knowledge on nature conservation.
  • Fluency in English will be an advantage.
  • Strong computer skills in information technology and programming will be an advantage.

Purpose of the Mission:
The Geographic Information System (GIS) Service Provider will be responsible for completing a project which will involve: providing technical assistance in GIS to YIARI projects, assisting YIARI staff in developing, implementing and maintaining a GIS infrastructure, and performing technical work related to designing, maintaining and producing GIS data. 

The project will involve the following:
1. Digital Base Maps preparation for GIS purposes:
  • Acquired and preparing base maps for working area including high scale maps (1:25.000 if possible) and related layers correlated to RTRW (Rencana Tata Ruang Wilayah) from the local authorities (Bappeda/ Pemda) and other stakeholders. 
  • Defining a landscape scale maps related to natural boundaries/ ecosystem, habitat boundaries and/ or watershed area.
2. GIS data captures
  • Produce a geo-databases (e.g., orangutan spatial movement patters and HOC conflict patterns) in YIARI’s GIS server and makes sure that all data has its own metadata 
  • Provide data capture guidelines for different kinds of features or objects in different kinds of vector formats using GPS, on-screen digitizing or other means and convert it into useable spatial data with its geo-reference information.
  • Sourcing and obtain first and secondary data – such as acquiring satellite or other images, and process into ready-to-use data formats, complete with geo-reference information (including ground checking where necessary).
3. GIS data manipulation and spatial data analysis 
  • Perform GIS manipulation and analysis, such as overlays and conversion of coverage, data format and projection conversion, GPS data collection/post-processing/projection, data reconciliation, etc. 
  • Perform remote-sensing manipulations, such as geo-referencing, image calibration, image processing and analysis, feature extraction, and produce land cover/land use maps.
  • Perform spatial data analysis that allows data integrations in varied ways that reveal relationships, patterns and trends.
4. GIS data visualization 
  • Assist in the preparation of presentation materials, maps, and reports with GIS components for YIARI projects and staff. 
  • Provide basic GIS technical support (troubleshooting, license activation, providingcurrent software, etc.).
