WRI work with leaders in more than 50 countries for more than 30 years, with offices in Brazil, China, Europe, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United States.

Launched in early 2014, WRI Indonesia builds on WRI’s 10-year history in the country, and strengthens our impact on the ground. In the short-to-medium term, WRI Indonesia aims to expand its presence and portfolio to include projects in the climate, energy, as well as city and transportation programs.

WRI Indonesia is seeking for a full time Communications Manager with excellent communications, research, and writing skills to support communications and media outreach for its newly established country office. This person reports directly to Country Director, and will work under coordination with the Communications Manager (or Director) at WRI’s global office. The position will develop, support and coordinate communication, advocacy and institutional learning throughout the program and ensuring advocacy work is consistent, coherent, and effective in creating a more prosperous and healthy planet. This person works in close coordination with any Government counterparts – whether central or regional government, partners, community and various donors of WRI Indonesia.

Overview
The Communications Manager will support WRI Indonesia’s office by developing and implementing communications strategies, and managing multiple communications channels (such as website, social media, blog, publications, media relations, and events) including the development and maintenance of WRI Indonesia’s website and other WRI Indonesia related/facilitated website such as Peatland Map Prize Competition. The position will also develop, support and coordinate communication, advocacy and institutional learning throughout the program and ensuring advocacy work is consistent, coherent, and effective in creating a more prosperous and healthy planet. The Communications Manager will proactively collaborate with the global team and donors on related work. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, sharp analytical thinking, and be able to demonstrate their ability to effectively engage with various national, sub-national and international stakeholders.

Responsibilities
The Communication Manager's main areas of responsibility will include the following:

STRATEGY

  • Develop public relations and communication strategies for WRI Indonesia to ensure high visibility and image of the organization which lead to continuing support and acceptance of WRI’s programs in Indonesia.
  • Ensure that WRI’s messages, profile and work are communicated effectively and efficiently, and that the learning, experience and best practice from WRI’s program are communicated internally and externally
  • Maintain constructive and effective relationships with national level government and support, monitor and review similar relationships between WRI programs and government at local level.
  • Coordinate and control the development and operations of the resource center to establish a strong and accessible information database which benefits all staff, partners and other stakeholders to support program implementation and the development of new programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with various key stakeholders (government, donors, funding agencies, public leaders, etc) to improve the image of the organization and open avenues of opportunities.
  • Coordinate and negotiate budget with other units to develop and produce various high quality WRI Indonesia publication materials and to ensure the content and style are in line with the organization’s standards, communication strategy and program objectives.
  • Develop and support key staff’s capacity to meet their responsibilities in relation to advocacy and institutional learning and facilitate appropriate professional development of specific team members.

FUNDRAISING

  • In coordination with Country Director to conduct research to gather and analyze the strategic direction of potential funding agencies for WRI Indonesia’s which could be useful for the development of long and short-term organizational strategic planning.
  • In coordination with Country Director identify and follow up fund raising opportunities to optimize the organization’s funding base and sustainability.
  • Actively cultivate and manage relationships with existing donors to secure renewals.

OUTREACH

  • External representation of WRI Indonesia’s Communication Manager.
  • Develop and give presentations at public speaking events, international forum, one-on-one meetings, and within WRI Indonesia.
  • Develop outreach strategies;
  • Develop strategies for media outreach to conventional and non-conventional media.
  • Write briefs, publish blogs, and conduct media interviews in order to set public and private sector agendas, influence decision-maker perspectives, and communicate findings and recommendations from Communication Manager’s work.

MANAGEMENT SUPPORT

  • Manage Media and Communications staff members, ensuring they are effective and supported, and that planned deliverable and results are achieved.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with staff across WRI Indonesia’s programs, as well as global WRI Communication team and other international offices, and external partners to advance the interests of Media, Advocacy and Communication of WRI Indonesia as a whole.
  • Review draft publications, blogs, press releases, and other communications materials developed by WRI Indonesia staff to ensure they meet WRI’s high standards of quality.
  • Serve as member of WRI Indonesia Management Team.
PERFORMANCE INDICATOR

  • Effective public relations and communication strategy are developed and implemented in line with WRI guideline and standards.
  • National advocacy plan is developed and implemented
  • Strategic visits and timely reports to government
  • Number of high quality publication per year (brochures, pamphlet, annual reports, magazines)
  • Accurate research data as an input for long term and short term organisational strategy planning.
  • Effective relationship with various key stakeholders
  • Wide information available in the resource centre and database is developed.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ideal candidate will have masters degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields;
  • Proven professional experience of min. 5 years in communications within relevant program management;
  • International experience or prior work in a global organization preferred;
  • Experiences in liaison and negotiation with government;
  • Experiences in developing, implementing, managing and evaluating development/advocacy initiatives;
  • Interest and experience in forestry, energy, or other natural resources-related issues in Indonesia preferred;
  • Experience and proven ability to communicate effectively with Indonesian government officials (GOI) and sound knowledge of GOI structures, procedures and system;
  • Articulate, versatile, highly skilled writer with professional writing experience (professional clips or writing samples preferred);
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a global team;
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices, and partners;
  • Understanding of social media and how to use it to impact audiences;
  • Excellent training and coaching skills;
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and work under pressure;
  • Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about all elements of communications work;
  • Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products;
  • Ability to travel and work in an insecure area with the flexibility to adapt to a constantly changing environment
  • Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a strong emphasis on written and spoken communications (additional language skills are welcome);
  • Legally able to work in Indonesia.

Final candidates will be required to take a writing/analytical test.
