Berbak Green Prosperity Partnership Project Job Vacancies: 4 Positions based In Jambi

Introduction
The Berbak Green Prosperity Partnership (BGPP) – or, Kehijau Berbak - began in January 2016 to work in the 250,000 ha peatland dominated Berbak landscape in Jambi, Sumatra. It aims to rehabilitate degraded peatland, work with the local communities and government to improve peatland management practices and provide enhanced and alternative economic opportunities for communities that derive their livelihoods from palm oil production, other plantation commodities and peatland-based and adjacent mineral soil agricultural activities. The first phase of work will be completed in March 2018.
BGPP will deliver two components:
Component 1. Peatland Restoration
This component involves six sets of activities related to Canal blocking, Landscape management, Mobilization of community commitment, Sustainable low carbon livelihoods, Impact monitoring and evaluation and Support for provincial peatland restoration forums.
Component 2. Sustainable Oil Palm
This component involves three sets of activities related to Sustainable oil palm plantations, Independent smallholder oil palm replanting and Low carbon rural energy.
The Berbak GPP is funded by Millennium Change Account Indonesia (MCA-Indonesia).
Background of the assignment
BGPP has job openings for 4 technical positions: (1) GIS / Data Base Specialist, (2) Civil Engineer, (3) Agro- Economist and (4) Value Chain specialist. The selected candidates will be expected to start working with BGPP in April 2017.  The details of is the positions are listed below:

Minimum qualifications
GIS/Database Specialist
12 months
Preparation of maps and spatial analyses to support various BGPP activities.

Collect existing maps, spatial and statistical data consistent with the objectives of the BGPP Project.

Develop, manage and maintain a GIS map database.

Create a system to map and track project activities for easy visualization.

Analyse spatial data and systematically manage the database.

Collaborate with the other BGPP team members, partners and vendors to collect and compile data for reporting purposes.
At least Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, IT, geography, or a related discipline.

At least 5 years' experience and proven capacity in GIS, spatial data mapping and data collection and management.

Understanding of spatial data standards, GIS software and formats, geodatabases;

Demonstrated track record of successful collaboration with team members and stakeholders, including government officials, local universities, etc.

Self-motivated and capable to work independently and as a member of a team to produce high quality deliverables.

Capable to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

Good presentation skills preferred.
Civil Engineer

Quantity calculation

Preparation of technical specifications and tender documents for canal blocking works

Assist in the procurement process of contractor

Construction supervision

Quality control of canal blocks made of compacted peat

Progress reporting in English language
Master degree in civil engineering or Construction

Experience in construction in soft soil conditions.

Agro-economist
10 months
Analyse village-level economic activities and provide recommendations on issues, constraints and opportunities (in collaboration with NGOs)

Prepare crop & farm budgets and provide training to farmers, in close collaboration with NGOs

Provide input for investment recommendations at village level (e.g. for Dana Desa)

Conduct agro-economic surveys, analysis and calculations as input to value chain analysis (incl. C/B ratio, NPV, return on labour and ROI per ha)

Reporting in English language

Degree in Management, Agronomy, Agriculture, and/or Economics from reputable university.

Experience in supporting and training farmers to prepare budgets

Experience in conducting economic surveys

Knowledge on how to calculate C/B ratio, NPV, return on labour and ROI

Experienced in mentioned tasks for at least 5 years.

Good English communication skills

Market Analysis and Value Chains Specialist
6 months
Organise and conduct market surveys in Jambi for 8-10 selected Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs).

Analyse the potential local, regional and (inter)national market/ demand for above mentioned 8-10 NTFPs.

Study and analyse the role of various stakeholders in the selected NTFP value chains.

Based on the market and value chain analyses, give recommendations for value chain development for Jambi farmers/ communities.

Support NGOs in developing and conducting farmer training in marketing-related subjects
Degree in Agriculture, Marketing from a reputable university

Proven experience conducting market surveys and market analysis for agricultural and/or NTFP products

Experience in value chain analyses is an advantage

At least five years’ experience

Good English communication skills
