To facilitate on-the-job training at selected schools for the weekly IFA supplementation program among school-going adolescent girls in Purwakarta District and Cimahi City, West Java Province
The Micronutrient Initiative (MI) is an international Non-Government Organization (NGO) dedicated to ensuring that the world’s most vulnerables – especially women and children in developing countries – get the vitamins and minerals they need to survive and thrive. With headquarters in Ottawa, Canada MI maintains regional offices in New Delhi, India and Dakar, Senegal that manage our country offices in Asia and Africa.
MI Indonesia is supporting the government in demonstrating a program model for implementing an intervention on weekly iron and folic acid supplementation for school-going adolescent girls to reduce the prevalence of anemia among them.
Following series of capacity building activities for District Officials as well as Puskesmas (health center) staff and School Health Program (UKS) teachers, on-job-training (OJT) at selected schools is needed to ensure front-line personnel, namely the UKS teachers, are able to forecast, record/report, and conduct effective counseling for adolescent girls in the weekly IFA supplementation program. In each primary health center, there is a section responsible for School Health Unit at schools. One primary health center is responsible to supervise around 10 secondary schools depending on the region density. Therefore, it is essential to involve the frontline health workers at these selected primary health centers. Further, in some schools the UKS teachers are supported by selected students as peer educators. Health workers will be also supporting them through this OJT initiative.
To date, in order to conduct OJT at selected schools in the two districts, MI seeks support of a local agency to facilitate the implementation of this project component
