ZSL Indonesia Job Vacancy: Pilot Landscape Team Leader - Bogor, Indonesian

The Zoological Society of London is an international wildlife conservation organization with a focus on science-based and pragmatic solutions. ZSL has been active in Indonesia for about 10 years, with a particular focus on the overlap between industrial development and biodiversity conservation. ZSL’s Indonesia is based in Bogor, West Java, with existing field projects in Jambi and South Sumatera.We are now looking for: 

PILOT LANDSCAPE TEAM LEADER 

Terms and Condition
Start Date : August, 2016
Duration of Contract : One year fix- term Contract, with potential to extend
Work Area : The Pilot Landscape Team Leader will be based in Bogor, West Java
Hours of Work : Monday to Friday from 09.00 am up to 05.00 pm
Reporting to : Sumsel Project Deputy Director
 

Key Purpose of the Job
The Pilot Landscape Team Leader will be responsible to oversee the implementation of the landscape level project and will work closely with the landscape stakeholders.

This position oversees the UKCCU/NICFI Project in South Sumatra

The UKCCU/NICFI Project works with the Government of South Sumatra, national and district level governments, communities and the private sector to to facilitate and support the government, private sector and local communities, to establish and pilot the sustainable landscape management partnership approach in the Sembilang-Dangku landscape of South Sumatra. The proposed impact of this project is to achieve “Inclusive economic growth and community prosperity, biodiversity conservation, forest protection and restoration, and the ending of deforestation, peatland drainage and wildfires that reduces land-based GHG emissions”.
Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure that methodology process, tools and documentation throughout the UKCCU project are align with ZSL standard
  • Lead and controlled the landscape team with an integrated and cohesive plan
  • Build the good relationship with private sector, stakeholders and government agency and ensure their commitment to project
  • Provide technical, management and leadership to support UKCCU program and ensure that program meets the donors, government and stakeholders standards
  • Ensure that the landscape team provide the high quality report in timely manner
  • Ensure that public private partnership opportunities are identified, well researched , maintained and align with ZSL policy
  • Other general project related duties as required

The job requires continued professional internal and external interaction/ communications, both in person and via phone and email

Mental Demands
The position will require close attention to detail in all aspect of the project and therefore concentration on the work in hand – precision and accuracy being vital attributes.

Flexibility
The position will be relatively routine in terms of day-to-day tasks during office hours – however sometimes e.g. during field trips or when a workshop is being organized the next day, some flexibility in working hours may be required.

Person Specification Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum Master degree in Forestry, Biology, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences or any other relevant subject
  • Minimum 10 years successful experience working in similar position with an international NGO
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, financial and organizational development skills, strong coaching skills and excellent analytical and financial planning skills
  • Strong analytical and interpretative problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with the proven ability to multi-task and operate successfully under tight deadlines and time pressures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous work (directly or indirectly) with Government of Indonesia Institutions would also be a strong advantage.
Knowledge
  • Understanding about wildlife conservation, particularly in Indonesia is an advantage
  • Knowledge of national and local government policies and regulations
  • Excellent understanding about habitat analysis, habitat management, translocation
  • Familiar with the most recent biodiversity survey techniques
  • Familiar with basic statistical/technical terms and analytical interpretation
  • Familiar with forest navigation, map reading, able to operate GPS and compass
Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent understanding of the GIS knowledge
  • Good level of competence in MS Office
  • Good level of data reporting and analytics competencies (content knowledge)
  • Excellent knowledge of analysis software (e.g SPSS)
  • Good communications and negotiation skills
  • Self starter, pro-active and uses initiative - can work independently and prioritize own work load;
  • Preferably a high level of written and spoken English;
  • Flexible and able to work under pressure and often to tight deadlines; including an ability to prioritize jobs;
  • Highly motivated.
  • Willing to work at any circumstances both independently or in a group, such as in remote areas with very limited facilities.
  • Able to deal with tight schedule and unscheduled tasks, and target oriented
  • Willing to travel extensively across the project sites in Indonesia
