Under the direct supervision of the Protection Associate and the overall supervision of the Assistant Protection Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties in his/her area of responsibility:
- Conduct registration of asylum seekers and provide relevant counseling on asylum and refugee status determination (RSD) procedures;
- Assist in monitoring the situation of persons of concern (PoCs) and conduct regular visits to immigration detention centres and community accommodation centers in the area of responsibility to provide counseling to PoCs and to follow up on protection concerns;
- Gather information from protection interviews related to all aspects of movements by sea, analyse the information gathered, and draft reports to share with the Associate Monitoring and Reporting Officer and other senior protection staff;
- Assist with durable solutions case processing;
- Assist in arranging logistical support for colleagues on mission to the area of responsibility;
- Assist in compiling monthly reports on activities in the area of responsibility;
- Assist in managing finance and administration formalities for operational needs in the area of responsibility, and in the preparation of detailed and accurate monthly financial reports;
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
Education: Minimum completion of secondary education but preferably a university degree in Law, Political Science or related discipline.
Experience: Two (2) years work experience in a similar area or in the wider human rights field. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment or international context is an asset.
Nationality: Citizen of Indonesia; non-citizen with Indonesian permanent residence.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and Bahasa Indonesia (written and oral) highly essential; knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
Desirable Skills: Good written and oral communication skills; computer literacy; good knowledge of UNHCR’s protection mandate; understanding of interviewing techniques; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
