FHI 360 is currently recruiting for the position of Gender-Based Violence Specialist, for the upcoming USAID/Indonesia BERSAMA Gender-based Violence Eastern Indonesia project. The purpose of this project will be to reduce gender-based violence (GBV) in targeted districts in Eastern Indonesia by generating demand for more and better services to combat GBV. Illustrative activities could include capacity building of NGOs and women’s groups to better advocate for services; increasing the awareness of the problem of GBV in Eastern Indonesia, and improving the ability of civil society organizations (CSOs) and legal providers to assist victims of GBV.

Illustrative activities could include capacity building of NGOs and women’s groups to better advocate for services; increasing the awareness of the problem of GBV in Eastern Indonesia, and improving the ability of civil society organizations (CSOs) and legal providers to assist victims of GBV.
The GBV Specialist will be responsible for developing the capacity of
CSOs and local stakeholders to more effectively advocate for GBV
prevention and response including allocation of necessary funding for
the implementation of existing GBV laws and policies. S/he will design
and provide a comprehensive package of GBV advocacy activities that
support the technical and institutional development of partners on this
project. FHI 360 anticipates that the GBV Specialist will be based in
Jayapura, Papua but with project-funded travel to other parts of Papua
and Jakarta, Indonesia. This position is contingent on project funding.
Job Summary / Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the implementation of GBV strategies at the regional and district levels, including working with CSOs, women’s groups, and other community groups to develop processes and advocate for GBV services and implementation of GBV laws and policies
- Work with communities to increase awareness about GBV and engage community leaders to work with CSOs and advocate for GBV services and implementation of GBV laws and policies
- Develop and facilitate training on core gender and GBV concepts, including training of governmental partners, CSOs, and other stakeholders
- Contribute to development of tools and indicators for monitoring and evaluation
- Coordinate the organization of the collection, compilation, data analysis and dissemination of results
- Contribute to the conception, development, pre-testing and the production of educational and promotional materials
- Ensure coordination between the GBV project and USAID/Indonesia
- Coordinate with appropriate stakeholders in all aspects of activities planning, monitoring, and implementation
- Contribute to the development of annual workplans, materials and tools, and writing of program reports
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Public Health or relevant field (e.g., social work, gender studies, development studies, or related social sciences disciplines)
- At least 7-10 years proven experience in GBV, violence against women (VAW), domestic violence (DV) and/or violence against children (VAC) prevention and response programming, including assessing GBV interventions; experience with male involvement in combating violence against women and girls is a strong asset
- Experience in the development of advocacy strategies, tools, training and interventions.
- Proven skills in developing and facilitating training on core gender and GBV concepts
- Understanding of quantitative and qualitative M&E research methods.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with minimal supervision: demonstrated ability to plan and organize work to deliver results, consistently approaching work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude, demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills, and focus on impact and results and responding positively to critical feedback.
- Fluency in Bahasa and English required.
