IUWASH Job Vacancy: Professional Writer / Editor for Best Practice Booklet - Jakarta

The Indonesia Urban Water Sanitation and Hygiene (IUWASH) project is a sixty-month program (2011 – 2016) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented under the leadership of DAI. IUWASH works with government, the private sector, NGOs, community groups and other stakeholders to improve access to safe water supply and sanitation in Indonesia’s urban areas.

The overall goal of IUWASH is to assist the Government of Indonesia (GOI) in making significant progress in achieving its safe water and sanitation Millennium Development Goal (MDG) targets by expanding access to these services.

To achieve the above, assistance provided by the project is divided under three main technical components, including: 
  • Mobilizing demand for WatSan service delivery; 
  • Improving and expanding capacity for WatSan service delivery; and
  • Strengthening policy and the financial enabling environment for improved water supply and sanitation service delivery.
IUWASH will apply different approaches and interventions with its local partners, such as local Water utilities, local and national government institutions, NGOs and communities to address water, sanitation and hygiene.

To achieve these objectives IUWASH need high caliber incumbent to fill the positions of Professional Writer/Editor for Best Practice Booklets (WEBP – JKT) - Short Term Technical Consultant (STTA)
Background 
Operationally, IUWASH is supported by a national office in Jakarta and five regional offices in North Sumatra (Medan office), West Java/DKI Jakarta/Banten (Jakarta office), Central Java (Semarang office), East Java (Surabaya office) and South Sulawesi and Eastern Indonesia (Makassar office). Through this structure, IUWASH assists 50 local water utilities (PDAMs) to improve access to safe water, and 54 local governments to improve access to adequate sanitation services and hygiene behavior.
Prior to the project closing, IUWASH is currently on the stage of compiling project’s success stories, best practices, case studies, high level results and achievements to be further developed as IUWASH Publications Legacy. 

Objective
The individual consultant for Professional Regional Best Practice Booklets Writer/Editor works in IUWASH national office in Jakarta and will travel to the projects regional offices in Medan, Semarang, Surabaya and Makassar. Based on significant available content. S/he will finalize development of 100 feature-style success stories in Bahasa Indonesia (building blocks of the stories are available) for Regional Best Practice Booklets that will be produced for each of the project’s five (5) regions.

Scope of Works
  • Through a review of previous reports and other information, become familiar with the IUWASH style of article writing, formating and branding.
  • For each of the above regions, review currently available materials for that region’s Best Practice Booklet and identify what remaining information and work is required for finalization in Bahasa Indonesia. This is expected to include a list of questions of clarification for each individual article. 
  • Meet with relevant field staff to obtain clarification and additional information required for article finalization. This is expected to involve a trip to each project region of approximately  
  • Perform re-writing/editing to improve technical content, Bahasa Indonesia grammar, punctuation, format, and overall comprehension.
  • Provide inputs on needed photos and graphics to strengthen/deliver the stories’ message.
  • Regularly communicate with the above-designated Supervisors regarding the above tasks, plans, difficulties encountered, etc.
  • Submit final drafts in an electronic acceptable format (i.e. Microsoft Word, Gill Sans MT font 11 pt and single spaced).
Coordination and Reporting
The Professional Writer/Editor for IUWASH Regional Best Practice Booklets will work independently and report directly to the IUWASH Program Communications Specialist in Jakarta.
