Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Durable Solutions
Officer and the overall supervision of the Senior Protection Officer,
the incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Interpret for UNHCR staff conducting interviews with Rohingya refugees and asylum-seekers to help staff gather basic biodata and information about their reasons for seeking international protection and their protection concerns en route to and within Indonesia.
- Provide written translations when necessary.
- Assist in compiling information on activities being implemented in relation to UNHCR’s response to the Bay of Bengal situation;
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
Education: A university degree in Law, Political Science, Social Work, Journalism, or related discipline.
Experience: Four (4) years of work experience in a similar area or in
the wider human rights field. Experience working in a multi-cultural
environment or international context is an asset.
Nationality: As this is an international position all nationalities other than Indonesian will be considered.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of Rohingya and English (written and
oral) highly essential; knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia or other UN
languages is an asset.
Desirable Skills: Good written and oral communication skills;
computer literacy; good knowledge of UNHCR’s protection mandate;
understanding of interviewing techniques; ability to work independently
with minimal supervision.
