Rainforest Alliace Job Vacancy: Project Manager - Jakarta

The Project Manager will provide dynamic and effective leadership for the implementation of a new cocoa that is expected to start mid-2015. S/he will take full responsibility for the project and serve as the principal liaison with the donor, the local project partner and Indonesian stakeholders. S/he will also coordinate closely with and support other Rainforest Alliance units as needed, such as the Markets Transformation team, Evaluation & Research, and Communications.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the relationship with the donor and the local project partner;
  • Manage project set-up, planning, and end of project transition;
  • Manage project implementation, including compliance with deliverables; budgetary execution; preparation of donor reports as per contractual commitments; comply with internal Rainforest Alliance procedures;
  • Coordinate with the local project partner the planning and timely delivery of technical support provided by Rainforest Alliance’s specialists to field implementation;
In order to position and promote the project at the highest national levels, maintain relations with key local stakeholders such as government officials, industry representatives, cocoa processors, exporters, and NGOs; and represent the project at events and fora;
  • Set up and moderate monthly calls with the Project Steering Group;
Coordinate with Rainforest Alliance’s Evaluation & Research team to monitor and record results from the project’s activities;
  • Ensure that Rainforest Alliance’s and the project partner’s communications teams receive regular information about project progress and interesting stories for dissemination through media channels; 
  • Organize logistical support for international specialists, journalists, project auditors and other stakeholders who visit the project;
  • Represent Rainforest Alliance as needed with local donors, government representatives, visiting dignitaries, and other outside parties; and 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, or a tropical agriculture-related field; 
  • 7-10 years relevant experience;
  • Demonstrate experience in project management;
  • First-hand knowledge of the concepts of sustainable agriculture and knowledge of the cocoa industry required; and in the coffee, tea, cocoa, and palm sectors preferred;
  • Understanding of business and value chains;
  • Understanding of/experience with spatial planning processes, landscape and jurisdictional approaches to integrated land use management, and working with farmers, communities, companies, civil society organizations, and government to achieve the goals of sustainable development;
  • Fluent written and spoken Bahasa and English;
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage remote teams across multiple locations in Indonesia;
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to operate efficiently in multi institutional relationships, and to communicate with farmers, government ministers, donor representatives and/or company executives;
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, assess priorities and multi-task with strong attention to detail;
  • Administrative efficiency, with ability to track project progress and prepare timely reports, and competence in main computer software programs; and 
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25 percent of time.
