Greenpeace campaigns have been vital in informing government policies on the environment and effecting changes in business practices which lead to various environmental problems.

Greenpeace in Southeast Asia
Greenpeace opened our first office in Southeast Asia in 2000. In that time we have led successful campaigns throughout the region, securing fresher air, cleaner water and a healthier environment through changing industry practices and government policies. Greenpeace actively campaigns across the region to catalyze an energy revolution, protect ancient forests and our oceans, create a toxics-free future and create a shift to sustainable agriculture.

Greenpeace has three offices in Southeast Asia—in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines and each office is composed of five departments: Campaigns, Fundraising, Communications, Mass Mobilization and Organizational Support.  Currently, Greenpeace has more than a 140 staff across the region, excluding the direct dialogue fundraisers.

THE POST: INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH COORDINATOR

Objective:
To participate in the planning and execution of campaign project work in order to achieve the objectives of Greenpeace, with a focus on promoting forest protection in the Indonesia. The specific role of this position covers international planning and coordination of research, information analysis, team management and contributing to published materials.

This is a full-time position based in Jakarta, with an initial 18 months contract.

Main Duties:
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Indonesia Forest Project’s campaign strategies in relation to forest protection in Indonesia. 
  • Coordinate specific campaign research work. This will include a thorough assessment of information needs, development of research strategies, directing internal research staff, contracting external consultants, data analysis, preparation of research reports, as well as contributing to and verification of Greenpeace publications.
  • Monitoring external developments to inform the campaign team about future campaign opportunities or risks that the organization may face.
  • Ensure regular communications and reporting with the project Leader, as well as with GPSEA, GPI and other NRO’s
  • Substantive briefings and updates to inform colleagues on research outcomes and provide recommendations for the campaign 
  • Maintain an active internal network with GPI and NROs.
  • Maintain and expand actively a network of institutional and individual informants (in close collaboration with the team). Develop, build alliances, and maintain good relationships with various stakeholders, in particular with regards to information acquisition.
Other Duties:
  • Conduct regular meetings with the research and technical teams
  • Other duties as required and directed by the Forest Project Leader.
Specific Outputs:
  • Develop research reports as required under standard operational requirements.
  • Develop progress reports and ensure their high quality and strict adherence to submission deadlines.
  • Support operational teams to ensure appropriate record keeping and documentation systems in line with GP requirements.
COMPETENCY PROFILE
Qualifications
  • Minimum Masters Academic qualification in sciences or business.
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar position. 
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience outside Southeast Asia or 2 years university studies abroad. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • Proven deep knowledge and experience of how science, economics, business and media objectives are integrated into effective campaign strategies
  • Proven commitment to environmental/peace issues and non-violent campaigning strategies
  • Highly developed ability to problem solve, utilising multiple analytical techniques within a focused results orientation.
  • Highly developed proficiency in database, spreadsheet, PowerPoint and information presentation.
  • Experience in the NGO sector will be an added advantage. 
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE APPLYING TO THIS POST

WORKING HOURS
Normal hours of work for full time Employee will be forty (40) per week or (5) days in a week, at 8 hours per day excluding an hour lunch break. This will be from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9:00 am to 6: 00 pm. Ordinary hours of work may be varied as agreed between staff and the line managers.

LEAVE
  • A permanent employee will be entitled to the following leaves:
  • Annual Leave: 20 days
  • Parental Leave:  As per labor laws and Greenpeace policy
  • Long Service Leave: 2 months paid leave after 5 years of continuous service
  • Compassionate leave: maximum of 5 days for the death of significant others
SALARY
In determining salary offer for this position, Greenpeace applies its Salary Grading Process, taking into consideration the job description and applicant’s previous experience, and the organization’s salary grade.
