BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

II.      Summary
Under the overall guidance of the United Nations of Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative and under the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer (NPO) for Youth and ASRH in UNFPA, the Business Development Manager (BDM) of ASRH Services Model Development in Yogyakarta is expected to assist with tasks related to demand creation activities. The NPO will facilitate collaboration and coordination activities with UNFPA and local counterparts – most especially the Youth Networks and Health Care Providers in Yogyakarta.

The Business Development Manager (BDM) acts as the general manager and is responsible for planning, budgeting and directing all aspects of the project implementation, particularly on business development areas. The primary role of the BDM is to develop UNALA from a NGO project depending on a high percentage of direct funding into a sustainable social business. Focus of the role will be to explore business growth within the network, develop a business plan, and execute it along with the team.

The role will entail high focus on delivering on business results, an experienced business developer must be recruited for this job, profit and loss management experience and double digit growth track record. Strategic planning is a key part of this position, since it is the BDM’s responsibility to develop the pipeline of new business coming in to the organization. This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions/services the organization can provide, and of the organization’s competitors. Knowledge of social franchising is a big advantage.

The BDM works with the UNALA staff in Yogyakarta, reporting directly to the NPO for Youth and ASRH that is based in Jakarta. The BDM will represent UNALA to key stakeholders and partners at selected events.

III. Job Description
A. Specific Tasks Related to Business Development Programmes:
  1. Develop business and marketing plan (including setting up the price of the services and products).
  2. Define productivity targets for franchisees
  3. Identify, analyse and build relationships with new and potential clients (including franchisees, CSR, donors, and the decision makers within the client organization) and turn this into increased business and leveraging UNALA network.
  4. Set up meetings between client decision makers and UNFPA.
  5. Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.
  6. Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the UNALA’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.
  7. Forecast sales targets and ensure they are met by franshisees.
  8. Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion.
  9. Attend UNALA Networks functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
  10. Present to and consult with UNFPA on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
  11. Develop and follow up on supply plan for contraceptives
  12. Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in clients.
  13. Work with team to develop proposals that speaks to young people’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
  14. Submit weekly progress reports and ensure data is accurately entered and managed within UNALA
  15. Work with other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
  16. Present business development training and mentoring to business developers and other internal staff.
B. Specific Tasks Related to UNFPA Programme Management:
  1. Develop TOR and activity reports and review financial reports particularly on programmes related to business development.
  2. Review TOR, activity reports and financial reports from responsible staff (see organization map) and jointly review the documents with UNFPA CO
  3. Ensure the delivery of programme activities in a result oriented and accountable manner
  4. Responsible for communication between UNFPA, technical assistance organizations and other key stakeholders
  5. Facilitation of coordination meetings at the provincial level
  6. Finalize and monitor complete franchise service package
  7. Monitor the progress of consultant who will review and edit SOPs - particularly related to management areas and youth friendly services
  8. Oversee all aspects of the implementation of the Marketing Plan
  9. To oversee and obtain monitoring client satisfaction, quality assurance of the franchise and the performance of franchisees
  10. Oversee the performance of the Communication and Youth Engagement Officer, Logistic Management and Information System Officer and Finance and Admin Assistant
  11. Oversee the implementation of capacity building planning and activities for franchisees
  12. Draft annual and quarterly program report to be submitted to UNFPA CO, based on UNFPA guidelines.
  13. Manage and coordinate the implementation (and follow-up) of recommendations resulting from technical assistance (from UNFPA/outsource/other stakeholders) – for franchisees Identifying strategies to engage new and potential partners
  14. To ensure that business development plan is in accordance with the agreed terms or strategies
  15. To ensure that business development plan pricing and subsidy mechanisms are in accordance with the agreed terms or strategies
  16. To oversee and provide technical assistant for the Communication and Youth Engagement Officer in ensuring that the implementation of the communication and marketing strategy is in accordance with the agreed terms/strategy.
  17. To oversee and provide technical assistant for Logistic Management and Information System Officer in organizing the Procurement of commodities - including an exploration of accessing the national health insurance scheme
  18. Follow up on resource mobilization and efforts to increase funding for the franchise
  19. Provide support for monitoring and reporting in line with project requirements
  20. Provide technical support to Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement
IV. Qualifications/Requirements:
  1. MBA (preferable) or a bachelor’s degree related to business development management
  2. 3-5 years of sales manager, marketing or business development experience.
  3. Knowledge of social franchising, especially in Indonesia, is preferable
  4. Understanding of the key issues of Indonesian sexual and reproductive health and young people, and knowledge of the health care system in Yogyakarta is an advantage.
  5. Excellent planning, organizational and facilitation skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
  6. Ability to work as a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision
  7. Ability to communicate with stakeholders from a range of professional and civil society backgrounds
  8. High level of written and verbal communication skills in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, including report writing
  9. Proficiency in current office software applications
