Specialist (for English Materials) - Indonesia
Chemonics International Inc. seeks a Communications Specialist (for English Materials) for the
USAID-funded Indonesia Marine and Climate Support (IMACS) Project. The goal of
the IMACS Project is to contribute to the sustainable management of Indonesia's
marine and coastal ecosystems through support to the Ministry of Marine Affairs
and Fisheries (MMAF).
The
IMACS Project is now in its fifth and final year, and is
seeking a short-term, part-time Communications Specialist to translate
project
communications materials from Bahasa Indonesia to English as needed, and
edit
and proofread project communications materials produced in English. The
Communications Specialist (for English Materials) will liaise with the
full-time in-house IMACS Communications Specialist, who will produce
project
deliverables and other materials in Bahasa Indonesia and basic English
translations. The part-time Communications Specialist will primarily
work off-site
to polish English documents (e.g. annual reports, final report,
quarterly
reports, success stories, fact sheets, etc.) that will already be in
correctly
branded and formatted templates. Examples of existing/previous project
materials can be found on the IMACS website under the "Publications -
IMACS Library" tab.
This position is based in Jakarta, beginning on/around April
20, 2015 through on/around September 18, 2015, working approximately two days
per week on average.
Responsibilities
- Liaise with the IMACS Communications Specialist--and Task Leaders, field operations staff, and other project staff as needed--in the review and editing of the project's quarterly report, annual work plan, success stories, technical notes, or other technical communications products as may be required by USAID and ensure timely submission of quality products. Specifically:
- Translating, reviewing, editing (both content and copy editing), and finalizing quarterly reports, annual reports, work plans, and the final report
- Proofread/edit—and translate, if needed—success stories and other English content/materials for distribution (e.g. on IMACS website, social media sites, handouts, etc.)
- Assist the full-time Communications Specialist, and Task Leaders if needed, on specific documents/reports to draft and finalize draft reports submitted by technical consultants as applicable
- Edit the Project's contributions to the USAID Monthly Report in English as needed
- Complete other tasks and assignments as deemed appropriate by the Chief of Party or his/her designee.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Development Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Mass Communications, or related field
- Minimum 3 years' experience in the communications field
- Previous reporting/developing communications products for USAID-funded project preferred
- Professional writing (writing, editing, proofreading) experience required
- Previous translation experience in Bahasa Indonesia/English preferred
- Good interpersonal and creative thinking skills
- Familiarity with Indonesian language, culture, geography, and socio-economic issues required
- Native English reading/writing/speaking abilities required
- Intermediate Bahasa Indonesia reading/writing skills required
