Job Description
Volunteers are vital to our work at Samboja Lestari Orangutan Sanctuary.
The Great Projects have developed opportunities for volunteers to help us deliver our vital animal enrichment and husbandry and you will play a key role in this exciting initiative.
We are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to manage the volunteer
program, train, coordinate them and give them the holiday of a lifetime.
This is a role requiring someone who is both interested in animal
conservation and managing a group of up to 12 paying volunteers, who
seek to have a unique wildlife experience helping out at the centre
whilst also acting as a tour guide on various excursions from the
centre.
Our Volunteer Coordinator will have some experience of volunteering or working with volunteers. Be approachable and friendly, passionate about the cause and have excellent organisation. Work at the centre is very spontaneous and it requires you to think on your feet to provide the clients with an incredible volunteer holiday experience whilst also maintaining a working ethical volunteer program where the animals are a primary concern.
This job is suitable for a recent graduate who has primate conservation knowledge, a degree in primatology or zoology would be attractive to us.
The key thing to recognize here is that you will be working with people from all over the world with different expectations as to how their experience should be. It is important that you recognize each individuals expectations and try to provide them with as much support as possible.
The job is a mix of animal care, animal management skills, itinerary design and customer care.
