The Indonesian Ministry of Health initiated the national MNP
program in and instituted the MNP, “Taburia”, for use in the public health
system. Initial efforts to introduce home
fortification with Taburia have yielded mixed results. While some evaluations report high
acceptability and adherence, others suggest challenges. Poor acceptability and adherence have been
reported, and there are concerns with the quality of the MNP distributed in
Indonesia.
II. PURPOSE
The purpose of this procurement is to hire the services of a research institution to conduct
a non laboratory-based sensory evaluation of Taburia, as compared to a
MNP of known quality, such as “MixMe”, alone and when mixed with a
typical soft, semi-solid food typically fed to babies in Indonesia to
assess acceptability of Taburia. The sensory evaluation should be
conducted with caregivers of children 6-23 months of age and their
children 6-23 months of age.
III. SCOPE OF WORK & DELIVERABLES
GAIN
will provide a technical expert on MNP to assist with the sensory
evaluation. The contractor will be expected to work in collaboration
with the GAIN technical expert and GAIN technical manager for all of the
tasks.
The selected contractor will be responsible for executing
the following activities:
- Submit a protocol of the evaluation to GAIN. The protocol submitted as part of the contractor’s response to this RFP will be finalized with input from the GAIN technical expert. Additional background material will be provided and questions will be answered. Based on the meeting, the contractor will provide a meeting summary that lists all decisions and any revisions to the timetable/scope of work made.
- The Contractor will have the responsibility to obtain ethical clearance from the Ethical Review Committee of a reputable university.
- Conduct the sensory evaluation in Sidoarjo district. Any data generated by the sensory evaluation will be provided to GAIN. Quantitative data will be provided in a database (e.g. Excel or other format agreed with GAIN) and qualitative data will be provided using Microsoft Word.
- Write and submit a detailed report of the sensory evaluation results.
