MARINE PROGRAM DIRECTOR

The Marine Program Director is a senior level position that will develop/plan and oversee the CI Indonesia’s marine program that is fully aligned with the CI Indonesia Five Year Plan. S/he is required to be taking a key role at national level to strategically amplify the lessons learned from the marine field programs for a policy change and or best practices adopted at national level (and vice versa), and strongly support the smooth implementation of the programs. As a senior position, s/he is CI Indonesia’s key person in charge for coral triangle initiative (CTI) that integrates the CI/CTI program nicely with the other CI Indonesia marine program portfolios to ensure positive and productive synergies. Together with the Senior Advisor, The Marine Program Director will oversee the fundraising effort to support marine biodiversity conservation in Indonesia and accountable for program implementation including budget allocation, staff and resources management and ensuring a good partnership with partners and other institutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that CII’s Marine program priorities and outcomes are scientifically and strategically determined and aligned with the Five Year Plan of CI Indonesia and the program reflects the CI mission and also Indonesian’s realities. This includes the development of new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the organization
  • Oversee and ensure the programs operate within the policies and procedures of the organization and comply with donor’s requirement, including proper burning rate for the implementation of CI marine programs either at the fields and national level, such as the existing Bird’s Head Seascape, Bali MPA Network and Anambas-Natuna, policy works and other initiatives.
  • Assist and coordinate with the Senior Advisor for Marine Program and other division for the fundraising effort to secure appropriate funding support for CII’s marine programs in Indonesia including developing and compiling a program budget to identify gaps and opportunity for fund-raising. This will include the maintenance of great communication and relationship with donors, and also finding new donors.
  • Represent CI Indonesia in marine conservation for a at national and trans boundary issues such as Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) in order to enhance the coordination with partners (relevant government, NGOs, private sectors and communities), and also ensure to fulfill the reports requirement for donors of the CII’s marine programs.
Qualification:
  • Min. Master Degree on marine science/biologist/ecologist/natural resource management or other relevant skills with min. 10 years’ experience in marine science in Indonesia, either in marine/coastal resources management programs.
  • Strong leadership and human resources management
  • Ability to write reports including proposal writing
  • Working experience with multilateral donors.
  • Financial management knowledge
  • Good interpersonal skills and innovative thinking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, 
  • Proven experience in field program management in Indonesia
  • Method on Strategic Planning and also marine biodiversity monitoring protocols
  • Strong understanding of Indonesian Marine Policy and familiar with Indonesian Government
  • Strong coordination skills and an ability to manage simultaneous, interdisciplinary tasks
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a wide range of individuals and within teams representing different organizations or constituencies. 
  • Proficient in operating computer software, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. as well as the internet;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks under competing timelines, and ability to priorities effectively
