About our organization
The World Agroforestry Centre (also known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry or ICRAF) is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 34 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.
About the position
Under guidance and supervision of the Marketing Specialist, the Extension Research Officer will have the main job on conduct research on forestry extension issues to improve livelihoods of communities and develop better extension practices by carrying out the following tasks:
- Assess current extension methods and practices, in consultation with key stakeholders, including community producers and government technical and extension agencies
- Develop locally-oriented extension programs using a participatory approach to deliver information on most appropriate practices for integrated management, production and value-added marketing, and contribute to an effective dissemination of related policy and regulations
- Develop collaborative manual of most appropriate extension practices and disseminate to numerous sites and users
Requirements
- S1 in agriculture, forestry or related field with significant writing abilities
- Minimum 3 (three) years of experience in forestry extension research and/or extension/rural advisory service development
- Experienced in providing technical assistance to farmers using participatory methods
- Result oriented and well organized; able to meet deadlines
- Good command of English and Bahasa Indonesia
- Computer literate (on Window based-systems including Excel and Word)
- Good understanding of time management
- Strong character, multitasking person and able to work under pressure
- Able to work under low supervision
