British Council Indonesia Foundation (BCIF) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the British Council Holdings UK. It was set up in October 2013 to support British Council’s more widespread and better quality teaching, learning and assessment of English in Indonesia. For this purpose, one of the initiatives is through opening English Centres in Indonesia.

Purpose of job:
To lead British Council Indonesia Foundation’s English language training business in Medan, North Sumatra and the core functions of finance, sales, marketing and HR. To position British Council Indonesia Foundation as the “go to” for English services in North Sumatra including direct teaching and teacher training, exams (IELTS and Aptis) with support from Senior Managers based in Jakarta. The post-holder will work closely with an Academic Manager, who is responsible for product development and service delivery.

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
 
  • Business Management and Development: To implement the English strategy, establish and grow the English language teaching business and achieve corporate targets for registrations and income.
  • Marketing and Sales: Establish the centre in the Medan market, raise brand awareness and encourage positive perceptions of the British Council and the UK through an effective sales strategy and quality service delivery.
  • Financial Planning and Management: Agree, report on and be accountable for financial and impact targets across all products offered in the Medan centre to ensure compliance with internal and external policies and audit requirements.
The core responsibilities are:
Specifically, over the first 6 months the post holder will need to:
  • Embed a strong marketing, sales ethic in the team and establish relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including local tax authorities, Ministry of Education and local government.
  • Periodic travel across to Jakarta and East Asia for training/shadowing.
Skills and Knowledge
Business Management and Development
  • Business strategy development and implementation 
  • Resource management for business development and implementation. 
  • Managing relationships with customers, clients and stakeholders
Financial Planning and Management 
  • Planning and Forecasting; Monitoring and Reporting; Risk Management
Experience & Qualification:
  • At least 5 years of Sales/Marketing and/or General Management Experience in the service industry with proven track record of meeting business targets. Knowledge of the Indonesian context
  • Education to degree level or above 
  • C1 English (IELTS 6.5+/TOEFL 550) or equivalent
