The Indonesia
Urban Water Sanitation and Hygiene (IUWASH) project is a sixty-month program
(2011 – 2016) funded by the United States Agency for International Development
(USAID) and implemented under the leadership of DAI. IUWASH works with
government, the private sector, NGOs, community groups and other stakeholders
to improve access to safe water supply and sanitation in Indonesia’s urban
areas. The overall goal of IUWASH is to assist the Government of Indonesia
(GOI) in making significant progress in achieving its safe water and sanitation
Millennium Development Goal (MDG) targets by expanding access to these
services.
To achieve the
above, assistance provided by the project is divided under three main technical
components, including:
- Mobilizing demand for WatSan service delivery;
- Improving and expanding capacity for WatSan service delivery; and
- Strengthening policy and the financial enabling environment for improved water supply and sanitation service delivery.
IUWASH will apply
different approaches and interventions with its local partners, such as local
Water utilities, local and national government institutions, NGOs and
communities to address water, sanitation and hygiene. To achieve these
objectives IUWASH need high caliber incumbent to fill the positions of
Junior GIS Specialist
based in Jakarta, Code: (JGS-JKT)
The
primary objective of this position is to support general IUWASH objective of
improving access to safe water and improved sanitation services, through the
usage of GIS capability on spatial planning and program mapping. Benefits of
GIS mapping will be critical not only for both the internal project Monitoring
and evaluation purposes, but more importantly as a support to IUWASH
stakeholders (PDAMs, Local Government, Local Universities, etc) to increase
their understanding and capacity to utilize GIS in their planning and field
activities. Specifically, the Junior GIS
Specialist will support all the IUWASH Project’s Components.
Responsibilities:
The
responsibilities of the Junior GIS Specialist will include, but not be limited
to the following:
Assist the GIS/ Climate Change Spatial Mapping
Specialist on:
- Develop IUWASH’s overall GIS capability and provide spatial planning and mapping expertise to project staff and stakeholders, and which is essential to foster informed analysis and decision making.
- Develop and maintain spatial planning and GIS data sets and maps for the overall IUWASH program, including water supply and sanitation mapping.
- Oversee and provide technical guidance to other GIS specialists that may be assigned to the project.
- Produce timely and accurate maps for program activities as well as provide capacity-building in spatial planning and GIS for other staff and stakeholders.
- Provide on-going advisory services to project partners and stakeholders on how to more effectively use and integrate spatial planning and GIS techniques in water supply and sanitation programming.
- Provide support to Urban Water Supply and Sanitation specialist with GIS / mapping information, tools and partner training with direct aim to increase access to safe WATSAN services.
- Provide support the IUWASH Grants and Sub-contracts whenever they require or utilize spatial planning and GIS expertise
- Provide support for the development of maps and other graphics in IUWASH reports, presentations and publications.
- Contribute in the raw water / climate change vulnerability assessment and vulnerability assessment and adaptation program, through:
- Develop spatial mapping for the study of climate change vulnerability assessment (CCVA) and
- Develop spatial mapping of the water resources vulnerability to support the preparation of climate change vulnerability analysis adaptation plan (CC-VAAP) report at all region.
- Contribute to the implementation of climate change adaptation programs in the field of water resources - Replenish Water to the Nature program - funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation, through the preparation of potential sites mapping, including water resource recharge areas for site selection.
QUALIFICATION
- Possess at least a university degree; preferably in geography, geology, geodesy and environmental engineering
- At least 3 years experience working in the field of GIS and Remote Sensing analysis, including spatial analysis and field survey
- Have the working experience in the field of water supply and sanitation, including providing GIS training and facilitation the spatial data development. especially in the program funded by USAID or other international donors
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience in community facilitation, training and organizing work
- Able to work independently in limited supervision/facility as well as a team player with a range of people
- Ability to multi-task and flexibility to work on evenings and weekend on occasion and to travel as and when required within the IUWASH project area
- Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office tools and several GIS application softwares both proprietary and free and open source.
- Able to work in his/her designated areas
