Jakarta
Program
Summary:
The objective of the FEED Mobile Program is to
enable 5,000 smallholder farmers, at least half of them female, to increase
their financial and digital literacy in order to access highly scalable mobile
tools which will help them improve the productivity of their farms and success
of their agribusinesses, ultimately lifting them out of poverty. The FEED Program will develop and deliver a set
of financial and digital (i.e. use of digital devices and channels) literacy
training modules for targeted smallholder farmers across
four key value chains – rice, corn, potato, and chili – with a focus on four
districts in West Java Province, where there are the highest concentrations of
smallholder farmers and the rural poor. Three modules will be delivered to the
training participants – agricultural information, payment services, and
financial literacy – using a combination of digital devices, digital channels,
and traditional classroom training.
By
the end of the program, it is estimated that:
- 40% of participants (2,000) will demonstrate financial knowledge and skills, through continuing recording of household and/or farm business expenditures for at least three months after taking part in the training.
- 10% of participants (500) will:
- Maintain changes in their financial behavior, through the participants’ ability to plan the allocation and use of their harvest proceeds for the next planting season, change in allocated of consumptive activities and air time purchase for access to agricultural information,
- Build financial assets, by the use of crop proceeds for purchase of agricultural equipment and allocation of savings from crop proceeds for future needs,
- Use financial products to help improve their financial stability, by access to use of products and services provided by commercial banks and micro finance institutions, both for farm business needs and/or for general household purposes.
- 10% of farmer groups (25) will provide better services to the farmers.
The program will communicate to the public,
professional peers and thought leaders through partnership with local newspaper and three
features on FEED Mobile
will appear in the local newspaper.
