‘Reality Check Approach +’ Junior researcher Terms of Reference

Reality Check Approach + (RCA +) is funded by DFAT through the Poverty Reduction Support Facility.  RCA+ intends to  develop and expand the capacity of local Indonesian research organizations to use the  Reality Check Approach.  The project will conduct 2-3  commissioned RCA studies over the course of 9 months and will use these opportunities to mentor  local research organizations  in RCA design, implementation, analysis, communication of  findings  and policy influence. It intends to support national and  local government and development partners to use the findings to inform programmes and policies, especially concerning  social protection.

The first phase of the project will run from April – December 2014 with a possible follow-on.

Key Responsibilities:
The RCA-Junior researcher will be a member of a core team comprising two Research Organisation mentors, communications advisor and a technical team leader, supported by project management and administration. 

Specifically, he/she shall
  • Review secondary data related to the commissioned RCA studies and produce short summaries in English, track operational changes in project interventions and keep up to date with all  new studies and documentation related  to RCA study topics. 
  • Work with the RCA Communications Advisor to develop and implement the communications strategy, especially with regard to using social media and graphics. 
  • Manage the RCA community of practice website, ensuring that it is kept up to date.  Coordinate the RCA community of practice  blog with advisory support from the RCA team. 
  • Act as point person for  some RCA+ activities e.g. digital story telling, participatory video etc,
  • Work with the team to develop the RCA interpretors training pack and supporting materials.
  • Provide interpretor support ( Bahasa Indonesia/English)  for meetings, presentations, studies and training activities where needed. 
  • Support the logistical planning and coordination for RCA studies and RCA capacity building events and processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in  development related subject e.g. sociology, development studies, development communication, political science, public policy etc
  • Proven experience of social media tools , digital media  for organisational communication.
  • Fluent Bahahsa required, with strong spoken and written English skills.
  • Preferably first hand experience of RCA or alternatively good appreciation of qualitative research methods and practice.
