Job Introduction
BBC Media Action is the independent international charity of the BBC
which uses media to advance development worldwide. Our mission is to
improve the quality of people’s lives in developing and transitional
countries through innovative use of media. We do this through our focus
on health, governance, livelihoods, climate change and humanitarian
response. We work in partnerships that include governments,
broadcasters, civil society institutions, donor agencies and
international non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
BBC Media Action delivers a portfolio of media and communications
projects in Asia. We currently have teams in Afghanistan, Bangladesh,
Burma, Cambodia, India and Nepal, delivering governance, health,
resilience and humanitarian response projects. We are about to start a
two year resilience project in Indonesia, funded by DFID as part of a
Global Grant to BBC Media Action, producing a factual TV programme with
possible outreach, social media and mobile elements. We are recruiting
an experienced Series Producer to lead the development and delivery of
this ground breaking television series for Indonesia.
Please note that this post is subject to confirmation of funding.
Main Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project Director, Indonesia, you will be responsible
for the overall delivery of the TV series. This will involve leading on
the design of the series, building on the insights of recent pan-Asia
research into audiences’ perceptions of climate change, and ensuring
that the programmes appeal to, and reflect the diversity of interests
of, the Indonesian audience. You will be responsible for recruiting,
leading and inspiring a local production team to deliver creative TV
content of the highest standard that is delivered on time, on budget and
in line with BBC editorial and production guidelines. It is imperative
that content responds to audience needs, as identified through formative
research and that it fulfils development objectives to ensure impact.
The Ideal Candidate
This role requires an experienced Series Producer with a background
in working in reality, observational or factual formats and an
understanding of international development. You’ll have strong editorial
judgment, and understand BBC Editorial Values. With your strong
scripting skills you’ll also bring track record of initiating,
developing and delivering creative factual ideas and treatments, and a
commitment to respond to research insights into audience needs. You must
have experience of leading and motivating a team. Your excellent
communication skills will help you work with a team whose first language
is not English, and to build strong relations with external partners.
We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our
values and the way we behave are very important to us. Please make sure
you’ve read about our values and behaviours in the document attached
below. You’ll be asked questions relating to them as part of your
application for this role.
The post will be based initially in London, UK , with visits
to Indonesia, and will move to Indonesia once registration is secured
and pre-production commences.
