Eastern
Indonesia faces many complex development challenges. The issues of alignment
and harmonization are particularly important given the region’s immense
cultural diversity, its remoteness and the fact that the population is spread
over a very large geographical area, making it difficult for development
stakeholders, particularly donors to establish a significant presence and
maintain the necessary contacts that would allow harmonization of programs and
take local conditions into account.
There
are many valuable lessons to be learned from local governments, civil society,
and donors working together in eastern Indonesia to increase development
effectiveness. Facilitating exchange of smart practices, experience, and
lessons learned among development stakeholders can support development actors
to work more effectively.
