Conservation International Vacancy: SLP District Forest Policy Coordinator - Tapanuli Selatan

Conservation International, an international non-governmental organization, is seeking to fill the position of SLP District Forest Policy Coordinator to be based in Tapanuli Selatan.

Responsibilities:
  • Project Development and Implementation 
    • Engage with MOF and the District Government of Tapsel on requirements and options to strengthen policy formulation and forest management unit at district level, provide capacity building for district technical department such as forestry, BLHD, Bappeda, plantation, BKSDA and KPHP; 
    • Confirm with MOF and the relevant District governments the proposed means for SLP to strengthen monitoring and enforcement for protected forests, and establish the working arrangements, including monitoring and evaluation systems for these inputs; 
    • Provide agreed means of support, and manage implementation, through Community Conservation Agreements (CCA) with local communities, and in close collaboration with relevant district agencies;
    • Engage with mining or other private operation interests on conservation measures for high biodiversity areas in target districts
    • Assist the SLP divisions in developing the thematic inputs, such as HVC and watershed areas, carbon stocks, sustainable livelihoods and ‘green’ economic development.
  • Project Reporting and Administration
    • Ensure that monthly, bi-annual and annual reports are submitted on time for review; 
    • Assist M&E Forest Policy systems are in place. 
    • Ensure that field expenses are allowable and in line with budget proposals and USAID regulations.  
    • Consider innovative ways of capturing and communicating key program successes and achievements.
  • Capacity Building and Partnerships
    • Partnership with local community, NGOs and private sectors to get their inputs to support SEA/KLHS document.
    • Promote experience-based learning processes and policy feedback loops/mechanisms with the SLP field programs and partner government, private sector, and civil society organizations;
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Has degree in forestry, biology, ecology and natural resource management-related science;
  • Experience in developing conservation management with a minimum 3 years of experience in similar position of field work;
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations with a wide range of people in both the public and private sectors, including business, government, non-governmental organizations, donor organizations, local communities, consultants and volunteers;
  • Knowledge and background in the customs and government organizations of Indonesia; 
  • Willingness to travel and work long hours, including work in arduous field conditions, on weekends and after hours as needed;
  • Proven record of success as part of interdisciplinary project teams;
  • Good communication skills and develop network;
  • Conversant in English (Speaking, Reading and Writing);
  • Computer literate; humorist, hardworking, easygoing.
Preferred
  • Have a good scientific knowledge of forest policy formulation and sustainable natural resources management.
