FREELANCE TRANSLATOR for J-PAL SEA
 
Background
The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is a research center at the Economics Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. It is a global network of researchers who use randomized evaluations to answer critical policy questions in the fight against poverty. In 2013, J-PAL launched its Southeast Asia office based at the Institute for Economic and Social Research within the Faculty of Economics at the University of Indonesia (LPEM-UI) in Jakarta.
 
J-PAL SEA will conduct a training on Randomized Evaluations for Social Programs on May 6 -8, 2014. For this event, J-PAL SEA seeks a qualified applicant for the short term position of English Translator and Interpretor.
 
Detail task description
  • Translating documents such as training modules and presentations, from English to Indonesian and Indonesian to English
  • Conduct simultaneous interpreting on the three days of training, thatis 6-8 May 2014, from 9AM to 5.30PM daily
Remunerations
  • The remuneration will be calculated based on an agreed to per page or word rate for translation, and a daily rate for interpretation.
  • Translators will not need to come into the office or maintain regular working hours.
 
Mandatory Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in English language studies or related fields.
  • Two years experiences in translating academic documents, preferably from both Indonesian to English and English to Indonesian
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills, in both Indonesian and English
